Nordnav Launches World's Most Sensitive GPS Receiver Tracking Satellites Down to -170 dBm

Software Receiver Breaks new Ground by Tracking 10 Times Weaker Signals Than any Other Commercially Available GPS Receiver

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, September 26// -- Nordnav today announced the launch of a new ultra-sensitive indoor GPS Reference Receiver tracking 10 times weaker signals than any other commercially available GPS receiver.

Mattias Astrom, CEO of Nordnav, commented, "We are proud to once again set the standard in the GNSS industry. Our new ultra-sensitive receiver is based on our award-winning R&D software receivers, and makes it possible to analyze GPS signals in very challenging environments. Indoor positioning is the next frontier in satellite navigation and is critical to improve the performance of portable navigators in mobile phones and PDAs."

The reference receiver allows the user to measure the exact signal levels on every satellite, compare the fading between the indoor and outdoor signals, characterize the multipath effects on every satellite signal, and measure the effects of the multipath on the navigation performance.

The ultra-sensitive signal detection included in the reference receiver allows users to analyze GPS signal levels in challenging indoor environments such as office buildings and shopping malls. The precise measurements allow the user to benchmark GPS receivers against an absolute reference point and thus evaluate whether such receivers are fulfilling their published specifications.

"Our new indoor reference receiver can detect weaker signals than any other commercially available receiver, allowing the user to analyze GNSS performance in difficult indoor environments and other low-signal-level conditions. Our new product will speed up the deployment of indoor GPS technologies by allowing users to understand these challenges, thereby improving the performance of their GPS receivers," said Astrom.

Nordnav's ultra-sensitive receiver will also provide significant advantages when deploying A-GPS. The software has been developed based on feedback from mobile carriers. The system is currently being used by Asian mobile operators to analyze GPS signals in indoor environments and to evaluate performance for E-911 requirements.

Nordnav's ultra-sensitive receiver technology will also be instrumental for the embedded product line and, in combination with the emerging European Galileo standard, will enable indoor positioning for millions of mobile customers and provide true seamless location for everyone.

The Nordnav Indoor GNSS Reference Receiver is already commercially available and will be demonstrated live at the ION GNSS 2006 conference held this week in Fort Worth, Texas (stand 504-506).
