Ansell Releases Cut Protection Glove for Construction Industry

RED BANK, N.J. (November 7, 2008) - Ansell Limited, the world's leading manufacturer of protective gloves and personal protective clothing, has added the Ansell Cut Protection Glove to its line of products specifically designed for use in professional construction applications. The glove will also be the first Ansell Construction product to be made available directly to consumers through retailers such as Northern Tool and Tool Barn.

"Every year, the occurrence of occupation-related injuries among construction workers consistently and vastly outpaces the national average, particularly in hand and arm injuries," said Sean Sweeney, senior market development manager for Ansell. "In 2007 alone, hand injuries - generally in the form of lacerations and severe abrasions - accounted for more than $382 million dollars in occupational disability spending, roughly $17,000 per construction worker in the industry."

Recognizing the construction industry's critical need for adequate hand protection, Ansell developed the Ansell Cut Protection Glove, which offers the highest level of cut protection of any glove currently available for the construction market. Certified with an ANSI Level 4 cut protection rating, the Ansell Cut Protection Glove offers workers up to eight times more cut protection than the most widely used gloves in the industry - traditionally made of less protective leather and cloth.

The glove, constructed with world-class Intercept Technology® Stretch Armor Yarn developed jointly by Ansell and DuPont, combines the comfort of Ansell fiber technology with the maximum strength and durability of KEVLAR® and steel. In addition, the Ansell Cut Protection Glove is designed to ensure high comfort and dexterity - user frustrations that have traditionally discouraged the use of hand protection - to promote all-day, all-application wear.

"Recent research has shown us that nearly 80 percent of construction workers do not wear work gloves while performing actual work tasks, citing that their overall lack of comfort and dexterity make their use unbearable," Sweeney said. "The Ansell Cut Protection Glove tackles these obstacles by offering construction professionals an all-around best-in-class glove, engineered to provide unparalleled hand protection while also addressing both personal and job-specific needs."

Ansell Construction Gloves

The new Cut Protection Glove (MSRP $17.99-19.99) joins Ansell's other construction gloves, all of which are specially designed to offer the ideal fit, dexterity and performance required for various applications within the professional construction industry. The range includes twelve hand protection products engineered for tasks ranging from general construction and carpentry to masonry and cement finishing, HVAC work, glass and drywall installation, sheet metal erection, roofing, steam fitting, plumbing and painting. Glove performance advantages include wet grip, cut, puncture and abrasion protection, and chemical resistance-depending upon the style.
