GlobalGreen Lights All American City with Energy Saving Street Lights

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2 -- GlobalGreen Energy Corp., a provider of innovative renewable energy products and services, installed high-powered LED street lights in Yakima, Wash., as part of the city's effort to decrease power consumption and reduce carbon emission.

Yakima, a 1994 recipient of the All American City Award, is committed to economical progress with a large emphasis on conservation, particularly in traffic operations, said Rick Dwyer, Traffic Operations Supervisor for the City.

"Along with the continued upgrades to LEDs for our traffic signal indications, upgrading our street lighting has the potential for significant carbon reduction and future real savings due to a decrease in energy usage and in maintenance activities," said Dwyer.

The 100-watt high power LED street lights have replaced the 200-watt high pressure sodium lights at one of the City's busiest traffic intersection for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Initial results from the September installation have shown a street light reduction in energy consumption by 52.2%.

Mayor Dave Edler, and former Major League Baseball player for the Seattle Mariners, echoed the city's dedication to preserving the environment recognizing that change has to start somewhere.

"The City of Yakima is always searching for innovative and creative ways to provide services as efficiently as possible," said Edler. "Using LED technology in street lights might seem like a small change to the average person, but it makes a big difference to the City by lowering energy costs and providing other environmental benefits. It's definitely a positive thing for our community," said Edler.

GGE's 100-watt model provides ultra-white lighting, improving color rendering and night visibility 400%-1000% over traditional street lighting. The superior LED eliminates night glare and produces no light pollution.

With a 15-year maintenance-free product life, the LED will consume 40-70% less energy with a carbon reduction equivalent to that of 14 months of passenger driving.

According to Erick Went, Vice President of Marketing for GlobalGreen Energy Corp., cost has been the main deterrent for the change over to LED lighting in the past years. GGE was founded on this premise, and has developed systems that are both economical and ecologically beneficial.

"It is promising to see a city like Yakima acting on its commitment to conserve energy and reduce its environmental impact," said Went. "The initiative to invest in the future is slowly coming and those who set the bar should be commended for their ability to embrace change and lead the way for others," said Went.
