Global Development Platform fosters active RFID design.

Press Release Summary:

Based on JenNet networking solution, IEEE802.15.4 standards-based active RFID reference design platform enables low-power wireless technology to be evaluated for active RFID tags in asset management. Battery-powered asset tags periodically transmit valuable asset data to powered JenNet router backbone that intercepts and relays same to PC-based GUI, providing real-time monitoring and tracking. Reference design, provided as 2 packages, enables evaluation, development, and customization.

Jennic, Releases Active RFID Reference Design Platform to Serve Applications in Asset Management

  • Real-time monitoring and tracking solution for asset management
  • Ultra-low power wireless asset tag solution to provide long battery life
  • Comprehensive platform to serve rapid development and quick time to market
  • IEEE802.15.4 standards based solution for a global market

Sheffield, UK: Jennic, a manufacturer of innovative 32-bit wireless microcontrollers announces the release of its Active RFID reference design platform, providing a comprehensive solution for monitoring and tracking assets. Based upon Jennic's proprietary JenNet networking solution, the platform allows low power wireless technology to be evaluated for active RFID tags in an Asset Management application. Battery powered asset tags periodically transmit valuable asset data to a powered JenNet router backbone that intercepts and relays the same to a PC based GUI, providing realtime monitoring and tracking.

The reference design is provided as two packages, to enable evaluation, development and customisation.

The evaluation package is designed to allow the benefits of the ultra-low power wireless solution to be rapidly assessed with use of Jennic's standard evaluation kit and a PC GUI. The Windows based GUI displays real-time data relating to the asset tags. The developer package is supplied as a drop-in application for the Jennic SDK, along with project files and application source code.

Jimi Simpson, Jennic Product Marketing, commented, "Our JenNet self-healing cluster tree technology provides a highly flexible platform for many wireless sensor networking applications, and the Active RFID reference design is an example of a specific configuration of JenNet to meet with specific application requirements. The platform enables Goods to be tracked and monitored in real-time, reducing errors and improving efficiency. JenNet was perfectly positioned to fulfil the requirements, allowing a cost effective solution that offers long battery-life to be realised."

At the heart of the design is Jennic's IEEE802.15.4 standards based wireless microcontroller technology operating in the unlicensed 2.4GHz ISM band, providing a solution for a global market. To enable rapid time to market, Jennic offers a range of pre-certified surface mounted wireless modules that have full compliance with all RF regulatory requirements meaning lower certification costs.
