GKS Michigan Expands On-Site Measurement and Reverse Engineering Capability Again

(DETROIT, MI; February 5, 2008) - GKS Inspection Services, Inc., a division of Laser Design, Inc., has expanded the onsite services capability of its Detroit-area metrology lab with the addition of another Faro portable-CMM articulated arm. GKS Michigan's total number of Faro Platinum arms is now four, which increases GKS' ability to provide on-site inspection and reverse engineering services to its customers anywhere in North America.

The new 12-foot Platinum Faro arm is equipped with both touch probe and 3D laser scanner technologies. GKS' system configuration includes Faro's CAM2 measurement software and contact probes along with Laser Design SLP-330 and SLP-2000 laser scanners and a high-end laptop PC.

"Many of our customers prefer on-site inspection of their parts," said Steve DeRemer, General Manager of the rapidly growing GKS Michigan office. "This makes a lot of sense for larger parts that are expensive to ship as well as for proprietary or delicate parts. By adding a fourth Faro arm, we ensure that we have the capacity to service our customers in a timely manner." DeRemer also noted that GKS selected the largest Faro model to be able to measure large parts which are common in the area's dominant automotive industry.

DeRemer, added, "We have offered on-site inspection services for many years using Faro arms with touch probes but recently demand has grown for on-site laser scanning services as well. With the 8" line of our SLP-2000 laser scanner, we can scan large parts in a small fraction of the time of our competitors." He also noted that GKS' experienced metrologists can travel virtually anywhere to perform on-site services with the company's Faro arms and that GKS has recently completed projects in faraway places such as Mexico and Hawaii.
