DALSA Expands the Genie(TM) Family of GigE Cameras with Two New Higher Resolution Models

New Cameras to be showcased at VISION 2006 in Stuttgart, Germany

WATERLOO, Ontario, Oct. 30 / -- DALSA Corporation (TSX: DSA) today announced the expansion of its Genie family of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) digital cameras with two higher resolution models. The Genie-M1024 and Genie-M1400 will be showcased during VISION 2006, November 7-9, at DALSA's stand #4.0 616. DALSA's Genie cameras are affordable, easy-to-use cameras designed specifically for industrial imaging applications.

Genie-M1024 and Genie-M1400 Deliver Versatile Performance

The Genie-M1024 uses a 1/3" monochrome CCD image sensor with a resolution of 1024 x 768; offering a pixel size of 4.65 x 4.65 at 20/fps. The Genie-M1400 uses a ½" monochrome CCD image sensor, with a resolution of 1360 x 1024 at 15/fps. Both the Genie-M1024 and the Genie-M1400 take full advantage of Gigabit Ethernet technology, transmitting data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables to distances of up to 100m. Future versions of the M1024 and M1400 will also be available in color as well as high-speed versions, significantly expanding the camera's functionality and ability to accommodate extremely high frame rates.

GigE Vision(TM)

DALSA's Genie cameras are certified GigE Vision compliant by the AIA (Automated Imaging Association). GigE Vision is the first standard to allow for fast image transfer using low cost standard cables over very long lengths. With GigE Vision, hardware and software from different vendors can interoperate seamlessly over GigE connections. "The GigE Vision standard is a robust, dependable, industrial grade Gigabit Ethernet protocol that simplifies image acquisition for industrial and medical imaging applications," states Philip Colet, DALSA vice president of marketing. "While DALSA's Genies are extremely performance efficient and robust cameras, their real power is leveraged when combined with DALSA's Sapera Essential software making set-up and acquisition as close to plug-and-play as you can get."

Software Advantage

Genie cameras are supported by DALSA's Sapera(TM) Essential machine vision software. Sapera Essential is a value-add machine vision software imaging toolkit that bundles image acquisition and control with image processing tools to provide developers with the critical functionality to design, develop and deploy high-performance machine vision systems. Sapera Essential offers quick and easy access to software functions to control image acquisition, manage image memory and facilitate image processing and analysis tasks. For easier system setup, as soon as a Genie camera is connected to the system, it is automatically identified and supported feature sets are communicated to the Sapera Essential environment through auto discovery. Camera setup and configuration is performed using CamExpert, which means operators are up and running and acquiring an image within minutes.

Genie cameras start at an OEM quantity price of $780.00 USD.
