CUPERTINO, Calif., and LARGO, Fla., Jan. 22 - GigaFin Networks today announced that it has teamed with leading network solutions provider Amer.com to help education administrators curb bandwidth drainage and ensure networks are free of misuse.

"School districts need to keep their networks open, but equally need to prioritize traffic types so that they can remain effective," says Wes Van de Polder, Director of Sales at Amer.com. "Unfortunately, the ability of school networks to deliver and receive essential information is threatened by the increasing use of networks for online gaming, unauthorized peer-to-peer traffic, encrypted proxies, oversubscribed bandwidth and constrained budgets."

School districts today deploy firewall and content filtering solutions at the perimeter to curb bandwidth abuse and provide access control. These solutions have not been sufficient to identify online gaming, file sharing, peer-to-peer (P2P) and streaming media applications or manage the growing internal bandwidth consumption of school districts. Districts looking to control internal bandwidth abuse are sacrificing network performance and simplicity for cost, or paying significantly more to upgrade to gigabit-class solutions.

Emerging bandwidth threats require additional analysis, control and real-time reporting of network behavior to catch network abuse as it is occurring. Once identified, school administrators must have a simple and effective method to stop the abusing user or application in its tracks.

"We are seeing a greater need to provide solutions that sit inside the network to add more visibility to network abuse. GigaFin Networks has partnered with Amer.com supply the missing link between the perimeter and desktop. The result empowers school districts to maintain an open information sharing environment without compromising network performance," said William Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of GigaFin Networks.

"Education customers have shown a genuine excitement in finally visualizing how their internal networks are being utilized, leading to a purchase in at least 90% of free trials. This underscores the value of the GigaFin solution to our customers," added Van de Polder.

GigaFin Networks and Amer.com will be exhibiting at the Florida Education Technology Conference (FETC) taking place from Tuesday, January 22, through Friday, January 25, at the Orange County Convention Center's South Complex in Orlando, Florida.
