Hirschmann Introduces New Fast/Gigabit Ethernet Switch Complementing Its OpenRail Family

April 22, 2009

Highest Performance Under Extreme Conditions

Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH (Neckartenzlingen, Germany) has introduced a new managed Fast/Gigabit Ethernet Switch to complement its OpenRail product family. The switch is available with 8 or 9 Fast Ethernet ports, 4 of which supporting Power over Ethernet (PoE). The uplink ports can be designed for RJ45 connectors as well as for any customer specific combination of other connectors, such as MTRJ, ST or SC. RJ45 or SFP ports (10/100/1000 Base TX) are provided for Gigabit uplinks and can be equipped with SFP fiber modules (1000 Base FX/SX/LX/LH).

In the so-called Phantom Power design, 4 ports support PoE for transmitting power and data using the same wire pairs in the cable. This also permits the use of 2-pair cabling systems. Since the switches feature an integrated power management, the power supply is adjustable for each port, individually. The functions that can be managed by means of SNMP v1, v2 and v3 or TELNET include redundancy mechanisms such as Rapid Spanning Tree and HIPER Ring, access control according to IEEE 802.1x, filtering options per port as well as Flow Control with Prioritization.

Fanless cooling and an optional redundant voltage supply provide high operational safety. Upon request, the circuit boards are optionally available with a conformal coating for protection against condensation. The status of the switches can be locally retrieved through signaling contacts, with detailed information accessible for display using a standard web browser. Another central management function is offered by the integrated SNMP interface, e.g. permitting the use of network management software.
