Pass & Seymour/Legrand "Durashield" GFCI Offers Durability and Protection in Challenging Environments

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Aug. 15, 2007) - Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, introduced its DuraShield(TM) GFCI Safety Receptacles today, for use in harsh residential and commercial environments. DuraShield is tougher than standard Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters, designed for outdoor locations, garages and work shops.

An integral over-sized rubber gasket protects the critical electrical components and seals the wall box opening. Rubber curtains let plug blades in and seal out water, dust and insects.

The DuraShield GFCI also resists corrosion with a nickel post-plated mounting strap. A weather-resistant Nylon 66 face provides durability and resists cracking from UV degradation and cold temperatures. DuraShield actually exceeds UL Corrosion requirements by 400 percent.

"When installed in harsh environments, dust, dirt, insect infestation, corrosion and cracked covers can lead to GFCI failure. Each P&S DuraShield GFCI is designed for extra durability and long service life," said Bill Timmons, P&S Marketing Manager - Residential Products. "These GFCIs are perfect for residential and commercial areas like garages, workshops, wash down areas, kitchens, laboratories and outdoors."

Like all P&S GFCIs, DuraShield features advanced SafeLock(TM) Protection to shut off power to the receptacle if there's a ground fault, if the GFCI is miswired or if the GFCI fails. DuraShield also exceeds the 2006 UL safety standards for GFCIs, surviving 100 times the required voltage surge test cycles. P&S GFCIs are also the only GFCIs to meet Federal Specification requirements, considered the quality standard for commercial receptacles and necessary for many government projects.

To comply with NEC requirements, DuraShield requires a P&S weatherproof cover when installed in wet or damp locations.

P&S invented the first GFCI receptacle in 1971.
