Gerber Scientific's Ophthalmic Segment Launches the Cut-to-Polish (CTP) Option on its High Speed DTL Generator Series

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., Feb. 15 - Gerber Scientific Inc.'s (NYSE:GRB) ophthalmic business segment, Gerber Coburn, is pleased to announce the availability of the "Cut-to-Polish" (CTP) option for its high- speed Diamond Turning Lathe (DTL) generator series, another enhancement to the company's Performance Series Line for the wholesale laboratory market.

According to Clement Patry, President, Gerber Coburn, "We've expanded our new lens generation platform by enhancing the DTL generator's features. The latest version DTL is an affordable, high-speed, dry-cut, single point, diamond turning lathe that employs precision diamond machining technology for traditional or cut-to-polish advanced lens processing."

Patry continued, "DTL with the CTP option takes lens surfacing to an entirely new level. It advances the performance of the DTL 100 high speed version by producing an exceptionally smooth lens surface. It is this surface quality that enables lenses to move directly to conventional or soft tool polishing equipment. With this new feature, labs can eliminate the fining step associated with conventional lens processing."

As noted by Robert Comeau, lab director for Multilux, Montreal, Canada: "As a test-site user, we've had the DTL with cut-to-polish since November 2005, and have processed over 13,000 CR39(R) and hi-index lenses. We're impressed with DTL's consistent, high quality lens surface results as well as the process benefits. With the cut-to-polish option, we eliminated the fining step, saving us both labor and consumable costs. That's tremendous progress."

Marc T. Giles, President and CEO of Gerber Scientific, Inc. added, "We developed the DTL high speed generator to satisfy the high productivity needs of the wholesale laboratory and to serve as the platform for advanced lens processing. Now, less than 12 months later, we have reached yet another milestone in our development efforts by releasing an advanced lens processing option, cut-to-polish. Our accelerated research and manufacturing efforts clearly illustrate our commitment and ability to execute against our new product development plan."
