EDS Launches New Version of Parasolid® Modeling Software

Parasolid 13.2 Enables Faster, Easier, More Innovative Product Design Processes; Provides Support for IntelO Itaniuma Processor on Windows

PLANO, Texas - EDS PLM Solutions today released Parasolid®) 13.2, a new version of its product lifecycle management (PLM) industry-leading modeling software.

The world's leading production-proven component geometric modeling software, Parasolid enables users to model the most complex parts and assemblies of any product. The software powers the most advanced computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) applications used in product design today.

"Parasolid continues to set the standard in functionality, reliability and interoperability, backed up by industry-leading support and responsiveness," said Bruce Feldt, vice president of interoperability toolkits for EDS PLM Solutions. "The latest release symbolizes our focus on enabling customers to get innovative products to market quickly and deliver significant end-user benefits in the shortest possible time."

Parasolid 13.2 Enhancements
Parasolid 13.2 includes new modeling features, improved performance and support for the IntelO Itaniuma processor, the first of Intel's 64 bit processor products. The new version extends Parasolid's unrivaled modeling foundation, and includes the following solutions for modeling automation, blending, simplification and performance:

* Modeling automation - New patterning, tapering and editing capabilities have been developed to speed the automation of complex modeling tasks, enabling Parasolid-based applications to easily deliver productivity-enhancing benefits to their customers.

* Advanced blending and surfacing - The latest in a series of coordinated blending and surfacing developments provides new creation capabilities and ease-of-use features to meet the needs of the most demanding real-world applications.

* Model simplification - Extensions to the model simplification technology introduced at version 13.0 provide improved detail identification and removal to facilitate preparation of simplified models for downstream processing.

* Performance - Parasolid version 13.2 has fully enabled its symmetric multi-processing technology on 64-bit HP-UX and Intel Xeon platforms to further improve performance for large model processing. In addition, new versions of Parasolid Bodyshop and translator components - which extend the robustness and success of CAD data exchange based on Parasolid - are available.

Parasolid 13.2 and its associated interoperability components are also key enablers for the fully associative interoperability between EDS PLM Solutions' UnigraphicsO, Solid EdgeO and I-deasO products. It is 100 percent compatible with previous releases, enabling developers of Parasolid-based applications to simply plug the new version into their software products and quickly pass functional and performance benefits to their customers.

"Parasolid is taking a lead in its support of the new Itanium processor running Windows XP," said Richard Wirt, general manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group. "As a leading geometric modeling component, Parasolid version 13.2 extends the reach of Intel Architecture into the most demanding 3D modeling environments and accelerates the availability of 64-bit CAD applications for very large model and assembly design."
