IFA 2006 - World of Consumer Electronics

SAN JOSE, Calif. & BERLIN-Sept. 1, 2006--Targeted Solution for Standard and High Definition Integrated DVB TVs Demonstrated at IFA 2006 in Berlin

Genesis® Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel TVs, monitors, and other consumer display products, today announced the availability of a turnkey Digital TV solution with its partner, IWEDIA TECHNOLOGIES, the international provider of embedded software solutions for digital television devices. The solution combines Genesis's PurVIEW HD(TM) 500 (gm10500) High Definition and Standard Definition digital television decoder with any of the Genesis's Cortez family video processors and IWEDIA'S robust and production-proven COMEDIA DVB middleware for use in integrated DTVs.

"The digital terrestrial television market in Europe is gradually moving from Set-Top Boxes to integrated Digital TVs," said Patrice Birot, vice president of Sales, IWEDIA TECHNOLOGIES. "Our common solution with Genesis Microchip has been designed to answer this trend enabling WXGA and 1080P digital display solutions to enter the market quickly and with as few resources as possible."

"The result of the pre-integration of COMEDIA DVB middleware with the PurVIEW HD(TM) 500 controller is a software and hardware turnkey solution targeted at worldwide iDTV manufacturers, offering cost-effectiveness, high video quality and rapid time-to-market," said Peter Birch, vice president of Consumer Products, Genesis Microchip. "The Common Interface support and MHEG-5 integration enhances Genesis's Digital Television solution to be applicable to DVB countries such as those in Europe, most of Asia and other parts of the world in addition to the existing ATSC and DCR capabilities supported by the Genesis PurVIEW HD(TM) solutions."

The PurVIEW HD(TM) 500 controller is a highly integrated, single-channel High Definition or dual channel Standard Definition unified memory MPEG2 decoder designed for Integrated Digital TVs in the DVB, ATSC and OpenCable (Digital Cable Ready) markets. A high performance, industry-standard 32-bit MIPS processor, combined with a graphics subsystem is used for customer specific applications and sophisticated user interface designs, while firmware-programmable multimedia processing engines are used for digital broadcast signal decoding and advanced, multi-format audio processing. The controller also features a very unique, flexible Video eXpansion Interface (VXI) that allows customers to render and overlay graphics in a manner enabling the TV User Interface (UI) and Electronics Program Guide (EPG) quality to be preserved through the system. PurVIEW HD(TM) 500 controllers can be paired with any of the Genesis "Cortez" family LCD TV Video processors, to expand an analog reception flat-panel TV solution to a DTV solution with the Faroudja® branded industry leading video quality.
