General Cable Expands the Reach of its Medium-Voltage Continuously Corrugated Welded Product to Hazardous Locations North of the Border

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY — General Cable (NYSE: BGC) announced today that its CCW® Medium-Voltage Armored Power Cable now meets CSA requirements, qualifying it for a Hazardous Locations (HL) listing. Achieving this rating will allow General Cable to participate more broadly in the downstream portion of the Canadian oil, gas and petrochemical (OGP) market. Manufactured using precision-engineered, state-of-the-art equipment, General Cable's continuously corrugated welded cables offer an economical, rugged and reliable alternative to labor-intensive cable in conduit wiring methods.

CCW Medium-Voltage Armored Power Cable utilizes enhanced performance insulation compound coupled with General Cable's highly advanced conductor and insulation shields, copper tape shield, an impervious, continuously welded and corrugated aluminum armor, and flame-retardant jacket. These components PLUS combined processing capabilities and know-how from the industry leaders are what differentiates General Cable's medium-voltage cable from all the rest — providing lower operational costs with demonstrated design integrity in the most performance-demanding environments.

"General Cable offers a full platform of robust, low maintenance and high functioning armor cable designs to meet the challenges that our Canadian customers face in oil and gas exploration and production — from TECK90 aluminum interlocked armor power constructions to CCW continuously corrugated welded armor low- and medium-voltage cables designed for hazardous installations," said Paul Liacos, VP of Marketing for Construction, Industrial and Specialty. "CCW Medium-Voltage Cable is designed for areas designated Class 1, Division 1, but can be specified whenever you need a power source for extreme conditions in any Class and Division Hazardous Locations. In addition, we have distributor partners in place to bring you the highest quality products available."

"General Cable is committed to rounding out its portfolio of OGP products on a global scale in response to an increased demand for oil, gas and petroleum-based byproducts," said Rocke Saccone, Product Manager, Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Cables.  "CCW Medium-Voltage Cable is manufactured with the same quality and dependability that our customers have come to require and expect from General Cable, and we are excited to have this as a part of our complete offering."

General Cable manufactures a wide range of high performance CCW cable constructions  — from 300 V UL Type ITC-HL/PLTC and 600 V UL Type MC-HL, to 35 kV UL Type MC-HL or MV-105. CCW arctic-grade specialty communications, instrumentation, control and power cables continue to expand General Cable's broad portfolio of OGP cable solutions for use in hazardous locations.
