Gemalto Demonstrates Multimedia Solution at 3GSM World Congress Tradeshow with Telefonica Moviles Espana

"One-Click" Access to Services and Feature-Rich Content Through a Unique Solution
3GSM World Congress, BARCELONA, February 13 - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO) and Telefonica Moviles Espana, the leading mobile operator in Spain, this week demonstrate a complete multimedia solution combining an enhanced phonebook, immediate access to Telefonica Moviles Espana's services, as well as applications related to fixed-mobile convergence. This multimedia solution allows Telefonica Moviles Espana to personalize the handset home screen with branded icons, providing direct links from the main menu to the operator's applications as well as to multimedia content. It also enables the transfer of a subscriber environment to a PC, securing the access to the operator's online services.
The Gemalto solution facilitates the discovery of services and multimedia content which can be accessed directly, without the delay induced by the connection set up. Through a user-friendly interface, the operator offers a wide range of interactive services including, in particular, a catalog of contents the subscriber can preview or listen to before buying.
This would encourage Telefonica Moviles Espana mobile subscribers to download contents such as music tracks and video clips. The Gemalto multimedia solution allows the operator to promote its services and update them dynamically.
In addition, the multimedia phonebook offers an operator-branded user interface and allows extension of the contact fields with e-mail and mailing addresses, pictures, personal notes and ringtones linked to the correspondent. Services can be launched directly from the contact, such as sending an SMS or an instant message, as well as browsing the correspondent's blog or accessing a map.
In order to step up to the challenge of converging all means of communication, the Gemalto solution eases the management of multimedia content and contact lists. In particular, it enables users to synchronize their personal data between their mobile phone and their PC. Leveraging the secure card's features and turning the handset into an identification module to perform strong authentication, Telefonica Moviles Espana will be able to deliver a wide range of value added Internet services directly to the subscriber's PC. Users simply connect their handset to their PC to identify themselves and are granted access to online services such as content buying, instant messaging, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or blogging.
