Gear Pump Gears are available in herringbone style.

Press Release Summary:

Optional herringbone gears are available for extrusion, compounding, polymer extraction and transfer pumps. Gears increase discharge pressures, extend life of pump's parts, and provide equal bearing loading that reduces energy requirements, decreases temperature and shear to fluid, and decreases pulsations from gear pump. Applications include compounding, tape production, pipe production, polymer extraction and high-viscosity polymer transfer.

Original Press Release:

Herringbone Gears Reduce Pulsations and Provide Higher Discharge Pressures

Because customers are utilizing gear pumps for tougher polymer and plastics processing applications such as higher pressures, higher percentages of filled materials, and higher molecular weights, WITTE Pumps is offering optional gears with a herringbone design for extrusion, compounding, polymer extraction, and transfer/booster pumps. By replacing standard gears and bearings with the one-piece herringbone gears, discharge pressures can be increased and the life of the gear pump's internal parts extended. These new gears provide equal bearing loading which allows for less frictional energy requirements, decreased temperature and shear to the fluid, no axial forces on the bearings, and decreased pulsations from the gear pump. WITTE designed gears can be used in WITTE pumps and are interchangeable for most other major polymer, extrusion, and compounding gear pump manufacturers.

The gears can be installed so flow is to the outside or to the center of the outlet bore. Applications include compounding, sheet/foil/tape production, pipe/tube production as well as polymer extraction and high viscosity polymer transfer.
