GE to Provide Control Valves for Southern Company's Mississippi Power Kemper County Power Plant

Contract Includes Masoneilan Modulating Steam Control Valves and Auxiliary Systems for the Integrated Gasification Combined-Cycle Power Plant

HOUSTON, TEXAS-GE (NYSE: GE) announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide Masoneilan LincolnLog and SteamForm modulating steam control valves and auxiliary systems to Southern Company's Mississippi Power Integrated Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant in Kemper County, Miss.

Southern Company's order includes more than 50 separate turbine and process steam bypass valves, spray water control valves, pressure reducing valves and silencers. Masoneilan bypass valves will facilitate the start-up, shut-down and trip cycles of the steam turbines as well as provide process steam to and from the gasifier and are necessary for the flexible operation of the plant in response to fluctuating power demand.

"The Masoneilan product line-part of Dresser, Inc., which was recently acquired by GE-has long been a trusted supplier of highly engineered solutions for the power industry and is one of few companies worldwide with experience delivering systems of this size," said Nathan Brunell of GE's Masoneilan product line. "Southern Company's decision to select our Masoneilan bypass and steam conditioning valves for the Kemper County project underscores their confidence in our technology, our people and our ability to execute on a project of this complexity and magnitude."

The 582-megawatt IGCC power plant, owned and operated by Mississippi Power, will employ a unique high-efficiency process that utilizes lignite coal to generate electricity. The coal is converted to syngas which is used to fuel gas turbine-generators that drive downstream steam turbine-generators.

The valve and auxiliary systems are expected to be delivered in 2011 and the power plant is expected to be operational in 2014. The Masoneilan team also will offer continuing service and parts support for the bypass systems.

The Masoneilan LincolnLog product line provides multi-stage pressure letdown control and trash tolerance, providing a reliable long-term solution for a wide range of high pressure, anti-cavitation valve applications in both globe and angle body options. The Masoneilan SteamForm product line is uniquely engineered for each application and combines more than 125 years of pressure reduction expertise with the latest in desuperheating technology to provide a highly efficient and reliable steam conditioning valve solution.

On February 1, GE announced the successful closing of its $3 billion acquisition of Dresser, Inc., in a move that significantly expands GE's offerings for energy and industrial customers worldwide.

The Dresser acquisition is the latest in a series of acquisitions over the last 10 years that have transformed GE's global energy portfolio. In the last few months alone, GE has announced $5 billion in acquisitions within the energy business. On January 13, 2011, the company announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire privately-held Lineage Power Holdings, Inc., from The Gores Group. The deal will open the door for GE Energy technology to be deployed in the $20 billion per year power conversion space.

In addition, on December 13, 2010, GE announced its intention to make an offer for 100 percent of Wellstream Holdings plc, a leading engineer and manufacturer of high-quality flexible pipeline products for oil and gas transportation in the subsea production industry. Finally, on October 1, 2010, GE purchased the assets of Calnetix Power Solutions, which expands GE's capabilities to recover waste heat from industrial processes for electricity generation and also complements GE's gas engine business.
