GE to Apply Mark VI-Integrated Turbine Compressor Control Systems for Retrofit Project in India

First Installation of the Technology in the Country

ATLANTA, GA.-September 13, 2006-The first application in India for GE Energy's Mark VI control system featuring Integrated Turbine Compressor Control (ITCC) technology will be a retrofit project at a liquefied petroleum gas processing plant in Vijaypur, Madhyapradesh State. The plant is owned by GAIL (India) Limited, the state-owned gas transmission and marketing company.

GE Mark VI ITCC systems will be used to replace the control systems currently operating on a GE Frame 3 gas turbine, which is driving lean gas compressors at the plant. The ITCC incorporates triple modular redundancy and patented advanced control algorithms that provide superior protection against surge, allowing critical compressor trains to boost operational margins while enhancing process reliability.

The scope of GE's contract includes design and engineering, equipment supply, spare parts, training and technical direction for the commissioning of the new control systems. The equipment will be shipped and installed during the fourth quarter of 2006. BHEL-GE Gas Turbine Services (BGGTS), a GE joint venture in India, is responsible for local project management, installation services and customer support.
"As our first Mark VI-ITCC project in India, this is a milestone for GE, reinforcing our presence in the region as a supplier of surge and compressor controls,"
said Nandkumar Dhekne, India Regional Executive for GE Energy. "We hope this application can serve as a building block to develop other opportunities for ITCC within GAIL's large fleet of gas turbines."

GE Energy's control solutions group, which delivers products and services for optimizing plant and asset performance, will supply the ITCC systems for the GAIL project. The technology is designed to maximize protection of the compressor from harmful conditions while enhancing process system efficiency and availability. It provides comprehensive, integrated control for an entire turbine compressor train, and can be applied to turbines from a number of manufacturers.

GAIL (India) Limited was set up by the government of India in 1984 to create gas sector infrastructure for sustained development of the country's gas market. Today, the company operates 4,600 kilometers of pipelines, seven gas processing facilities and India's largest gas-based petrochemical complex.
