GE's Trailer-Mounted TM2500+(TM) Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Joins Ecomagination(TM) Product Portfolio


Technology Refinements Bring Reduced Carbon Dioxide Emissions, Fuel Savings over TM2500

HOUSTON, TEXAS-March 5, 2012-GE's (NYSE: GE) flexible, efficient, trailer-mounted TM2500+(TM) aeroderivative gas turbine recently received ecomagination(TM) qualification for its ability to help power cities and industries during environmental, economic and emergency power challenges.

GE's TM2500+ joins the FlexAero LM6000-PH, LM6000-PCe, LM6000-PF and LMS100 among GE's growing list of ecomagination-qualified products. When compared with the previous version, the TM2500, it provides customers with faster, more flexible distributed power generation by combining high efficiency, better fuel gas consumption and fuel flexibility, coupled with lower emissions in both the 50 and 60 Hz segments.

The TM2500+ is a workhorse in the global aeroderivative mobile fleet. With a GE Aviation CF6-6 engine at its core, the TM2500+ resides on two trailers and can provide up to 31 megawatts of power generation in days due to its unique roll-on, roll-off capabilities for air, ship or road transportation. It is the portable version of the LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine, which has been the backbone of the global fleet since it was unveiled in 1969.

GE's two-trailer design was enhanced to include the LM2500+ engine-allowing for higher megawatt output and efficiency performance. The TM2500+ offers multi-fuel flexibility operating on either natural gas or liquid distillate fuels and is easily converted from 50 Hz to 60 Hz. It can reach full power in less than 10 minutes and is capable of achieving nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions down to 25 ppm with water injection.

GE's TM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine operating on natural gas at ISO baseload conditions has an efficiency of 37 percent at 60 Hz and 35 percent at 50 Hz with water injection for NOx control.

To earn ecomagination qualification, a product is evaluated for its ability to significantly and measurably improve the customer's environmental and operating performance. Green Order, a consulting firm, helps verify the rigorous, multi-tiered qualification process to ensure accuracy and thorough documentation of technological performance.

Environmental Benefits

o At 60 Hz and when compared to GE's TM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine operating at ISO baseload conditions, the TM2500+ emits approximately 5,700 fewer metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year at 30 megawatts of output, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of approximately 1,120 cars on U.S. roads.

o At 50 Hz and when compared to GE's TM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine operating at ISO baseload conditions, the TM2500+ emits approximately 3,800 fewer metric tons of CO2 per year for 25 megawatts of output, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of approximately 1,900 cars on European Union roads.

o The TM2500+ has an improved design. Now packaged on a two-trailer system with a top-mounted air inlet filter and exhaust assemblies, the TM2500+ requires 77 percent less space than its predecessor.

o Both the inlet filter assembly and the exhaust duct are mounted directly on top of the main trailer assembly, making the TM2500+ easily transported by ship, air or road to even the most remote locations around the globe.

o The improved TM2500+ design offers an increased number of quick-disconnect fittings, which simplify and accelerate the installation process allowing for assembly and setup in as little as one day.

Operational Benefits

o At 60 Hz, the TM2500+ consumes approximately 95,000 fewer MMBTU of natural gas per year at 30 megawatts of output, yielding an annual savings of approximately $500,000 at a natural gas price of $5.25/MMBTU.

o At 50 Hz, the TM2500+ consumes approximately 64,000 fewer MMBTU of natural gas per year at 25 megawatts of output, yielding an annual savings of approximately $640,000 at a natural gas price of $10.00/MMBTU.
