GE's Jenbacher Gas Engines Ensure Uninterrupted Electric Power for Industrial Park on Indonesia's Batam Island

o P.T. Tunas Industrial Estate Eliminates Power Disruptions By Adding Jenbacher J624 Two-Stage Turbocharged Engine to Existing Jenbacher Fleet

o GE's Jenbacher J624 Gas Engine Offers High Output and Efficiency In Hot, Humid Conditions

SURABAYA, INDONESIA - June 8, 2011 - The P.T. Tunas Industrial Estate in Batam Island's free trade zone is ensuring a reliable, uninterrupted supply of electricity for its tenants despite periodic regional power shortages, thanks to the latest gas engine technology: GE's (NYSE: GE) flexible, high-output and efficient Jenbacher J624 two-stage turbocharged engine, on display in GE's booth at the Manufacturing Surabaya 2011 exhibition beginning today.

The hot, humid conditions found in equatorial zones make it difficult for combustion equipment to reach optimum levels of output and efficiency, but GE's new Jenbacher J624 engine will provide the Tunas Industrial estate with 4.4 megawatts (MW) of electrical output at 45.5 percent efficiency.

"We appreciate that GE understands the specific demands of this region, and this engine is a high-quality product with the power output, efficiency and the reliability we need to meet our objectives for this project," said Ir. Fredy Wibowo, director, P.T. Tunas Energi. "The 24-hour service capability and availability of spare parts also were key factors going into our decision to choose this equipment."

P.T. Tunas Energi, an engineering/procurement contractor and division of the operator of the Tunas Industrial Estate, is installing the engine, which will enter service later this month and run on natural gas. It complements two J420 and two J620 of GE's gas engines that are already helping meet the power needs of the industrial estate.

"The ability to offer a continuous power supply is a competitive advantage the Tunas Industrial Estate has over its competitors," said Rafael Santana, president and CEO - gas engines for GE Energy. "This innovative new J624 gas engine is a powerful enabler for companies such as Tunas which are eager to adopt the latest technologies to solve problems and capitalize on opportunities. By using a groundbreaking two-stage turbocharger rather than a typically used single stage, GE's Jenbacher is able to boost pressure. This, in turn, significantly pushes the engine's operating range even in hot conditions and at high elevations. GE is committed to investing the money, time and talent to create solutions that enable customers such as Tunas to meet those challenges."

GE also is supplying ancillary equipment and services, including system design. GE's official distributor Navigat Energy will provide operation and maintenance services and is the owner of the equipment.
