GE Libraries Enable Developers to Maximize DSP Performance of Embedded Mil/Aero Platforms Based on 2nd Generation Intel® Core(TM) i7 Technology

AXISLib-AVX optimizes performance, reduces errors, speeds time to ISR solutions

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -GE Intelligent Platforms today announced AXISLib-AVX optimized DSP and math libraries for GE's latest high performance embedded computing (HPEC) solutions using 2nd Generation Intel® Core(TM) i7 processors with Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX). This new generation of technology from Intel features in several products recently announced by GE, including the SBC324 3U OpenVPX rugged single board computer, the SBC624 6U OpenVPX rugged single board computer, the XCR14 6U CompactPCI® and XVR14 6U VME platforms and the DSP280 rugged dual socket quad core multiprocessor.

AXISLib-AVX provides a full VSIPL Core 1.0 library with more than 600 high performance digital signal processing and vector mathematical functions created to help developers maximize system and application performance while minimizing time to solution. The VSIPL API ensures code portability across processing platforms in support of planned, multi-year technology insertion. GE also provides the RSPL API providing more control and lower overheads to support the most advanced real-time embedded signal processing applications such as ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) and can operate in a standalone mode or as an integral software module within the AXIS Advanced Multiprocessor Integrated Software environment.

"Any OEM or systems integrator developing deployed ISR, radar, sonar, image processing, SIGINT or ELINT platforms will derive considerable benefit from using AXISLib-AVX," said Michael Stern, Global Product Manager, Military & Aerospace High Performance Embedded Computing Products at GE Intelligent Platforms. "Today's compact, light weight systems challenge developers to extract the highest possible levels of performance. AXISLib-AVX is optimized for the new 256-bit wide, Intel AVX SIMD engine, and is specifically designed to enable developers to take the greatest advantage of the compelling DSP and math facilities that Intel's newest chip set brings."

vAXISLib-AVX can be provided as a standalone module. Alternatively, it can be deployed as part of GE's AXIS (Advanced Multiprocessing Integrated Software) development framework. AXIS is a set of software modules that can be used to accelerate the design, development, testing and deployment of complex DSP and multiprocessing platforms for real-time applications such as radar, sonar, communications and image processing. The AXIS software suite comprises an integrated graphical user interface (AXISView) providing task level programming for algorithm development and system visualization, and a high performance interprocessor communication library (AXISFlow) for high throughput, low latency data movement across multiple fabrics such as PCI Express®, Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Serial RapidIO® and so on, scaling from one to many CPU nodes across a single board, multiple boards in a single chassis and multiple system chassis.
