GE Gas Turbine Technology to Help Meet Jordan's Growing Demand for Electricity

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - November 14, 2006 - GE Energy will supply a Frame 9E gas turbine to Al Samra Electricity Production Company for the expansion of a power plant that will help Jordan meet its increasing electricity demand, which is estimated to be increasing at a rate of approximately six percent a year.

The new machine will join two other GE Frame 9E gas turbines already operating at the site, which is approximately 30 kilometers from Amman, and will increase the plant's total output by 126 megawatts. Al Samra is owned by the government and the plant's power is provided to the state-owned National Electric Power Company.

The new Frame 9E is being manufactured at GE's gas turbine plant in Belfort, France and will be shipped in December of 2006. It will begin simple-cycle, commercial service in July of 2007, using natural gas as the primary fuel with distillate as a backup.

Designed for high levels of reliability, availability and maintainability, as well as fuel flexibility, nearly 400 GE Frame 9E gas turbines have been installed or committed for projects worldwide.

The scope of GE's turnkey contract for the Al Samra expansion also includes balance of plant equipment, installation, civil works and training.

"The Al Samra project reinforces the presence of GE gas turbine technology in Jordan," said John Reinker, General Manager of Heavy Duty Gas Turbine & Combined-Cycle Products for GE Energy. "Among other projects in the Kingdom, GE has also supplied a Frame 6B gas turbine for the 2004 expansion of the Risha Power Plant in Jordan's Mafraq district. Combined, the Al Samra and Risha plants supply nearly 30% of Jordan's electricity."

GE is active in several sectors in Jordan, including energy, health care, aviation, consumer, industrial and oil and gas. In 2005, the company opened a new corporate office in Amman, Jordan to further support its presence in the Kingdom.
