GE Energy to Supply Distributed Control System for First 350-Megawatt Supercritical Fossil Power Plant in China


SHANGHAI, CHINA- September 18, 2007 - GE Energy will provide an OC 4000(TM) distributed control system (DCS) to the first 350-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power plant in China. It will be installed at China Huaneng Group's Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant located in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China. The first equipment will be shipped in January 2008 and will begin commercial operation in June 2008.

The new DCS will be used for two supercritical coal boilers at the plant. The order also represents the first technical application of the OC 4000 and the first cooperation with the China Thermal Power Research Institute for GE Energy's Optimization and Control business. GE Energy's OC 4000 DCS provides total plant control at a single level, combining a number of applications, ranging from plant-wide distributed control to stand-alone control and protection of specific assets, such as turbines or boilers. Through the system's advanced fault-tolerant and redundant design features, reliable and robust control can be configured to address even the most critical applications.

China Huaneng Group is the largest power producer in China. At the end of 2006, CHNG wholly owned or had controlling interest in 87 operating power plants, located in 23 provinces in China, with a total generation capacity of 57,185 megawatts.
