GE Energy to Provide First Ever OC 4000 Distributed Control System in Vietnam

ATLANTA, GA.-Jan. 30, 2007- In a landmark project slated to be the first in Vietnam, GE Energy has been selected by the China Shanghai (Group) Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technological Cooperation to install an OC 4000 distributed control system (DCS) at the Son Dong Thermal Power Plant.

The order also represents the first overseas project for a plant-wide control system based on the OC 4000 platform. Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group's Son Dong Thermal Power Plant is located in Thanh Luan Village, Son Dong District, Bac Giang Province.

The new DCS will be used in the coal-fired units to completely control the CFB boiler, steam turbine and accessories, electrical system and circulating water. The Son Dong Thermal Power Plant, with two 110-megawatt steam turbines, will produce electric power for Electricity of Vietnam, which is the state-owned company that is assigned by the government to manage all electricity distribution for Vietnam.

GE Energy is also providing its Bently Nevada 3500 series machinery protection system, which affords continuous, on-line monitoring suitable for machinery protection applications. It is GE's most capable and flexible system in a traditional rack-based design.

"GE Energy prides itself on providing its customers with high-quality power generation control solutions and the Son Dong project is no exception," said Daniel Heintzelman, president of GE Energy's services business. "The OC 4000 system for plant-side distributed control balances the security that comes from individual purpose-built controls with the convenience and data sharing capabilities that can only exist in a common, integrated platform."

The equipment will be shipped in two stages. The first shipment will be in March 2007 with installation beginning in July 2007 and commissioning during the first quarter of 2008. The second shipment will be in July 2007 with installation at the end of 2007 and commissioning around June 2008.
