Intermec Introduces New dcBrowser Gateway for Windows NT

* Leverages common graphical user interface web page development applications to quickly create program screens for Intermec handheld computers
* Streamlines communications to maximize RF bandwidth and device battery life
* Requires no additional gateway hardware

EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 4, 2002 - Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced dcBrowser(TM) Gateway for Windows(R) NT, a software program that allows NT programmers to use standard web development tools to create powerful enterprise data collection applications for Intermec's wide range of handheld computers - without the use of additional DC server hardware.

The program, developed for Windows NT, allows the large amounts of graphical information previously required by traditional browsers to be replaced by a small amount of text, greatly streamlining radio frequency bandwidth. This ability increases both application throughput and terminal battery life, enhancing overall system performance. dcBrowser Gateway can be loaded directly onto a Windows NT 4.0 or above computer server. Standard HTML pages are instantly converted into text-based messages, scalable to a population of either graphical- or text-based handheld and mobile computers.

Because dcBrowser Gateway is a software-only product, the cost of ownership and the level of systems support required is low. And because it is intuitively easy to use and is based on common development tools, dcBrowser Gateway reduces development time and simplifies programming.

"Intermec's dcBrowser Gateway builds a bridge between terminal emulation and HTML, so you can easily extend legacy data between desktop browsers and existing data collection terminals," said Swaran Arneja, product manager, Intermec connectivity products. "dcBrowser also saves money and time by extending the power of the latest web tools and techniques into an installed base of text-based mobile device computers."

dcBrowser Gateway has been rigorously tested and customized for fast response time under fluctuating traffic loads in large enterprise data collection environments. New enhancements take full advantage of the latest web teclnology. For example, software update and administrative tasks can be performed instantly via the Internet and IP networks, lowering support costs and increasing service quality to users.
