New Unique Smart Electronic Gas Management System Delivers Continuous Supply, Greatly Reduces Residual Returns, Improving Cost-Efficiency



November 15, 2004 - Virginia Beach, VA - A new microprocessor-controlled automatic switchover system incorporating software technology that allows users to select the most efficient, cost-effective gas mode and reduce residual gas returns has been introduced by CONCOA.

The IntelliSwitch(TM) (patent pending), ideally suited for cryo/bio applications, process and metal fabrication industries including lasers, and various specialty gas applications, is a new, unique gas delivery system with an electronic "brain" providing for universal input compatibility. The push of a button allows for interchangeable service from high-pressure cylinders to cryogenic liquid cans. Such capability enables the user to change supply mode based on the workload at hand and prevailing cost economics of the gas products.

Available with monitoring software, the IntelliSwitch records data, which enables the user to monitor process activity from remote sources. An alarm system incorporating RS 232/485 interface technology provides for real-time communication, notifying appropriate personnel via telephone/e-mail continually until an emergency is resolved.

But perhaps the most important function of the IntelliSwitch is its unique ability to handle high-demand and low-use situations. In high demand spikes, a liquid can may not be able to maintain pressure and the system will switch to the reserve. The IntelliSwitch brain looks back to determine if the apparently empty liquid can is building pressure, signifying an over-demand situation with recovery on the way. In the low-use situation, such as weekends, the unit monitors pressure in both the primary and reserve sides and draws down excess pressure prior to atmospheric venting. Both process performance and cost economics are maximized.

The unique software guarantees significantly reduced amounts of residual gas returns, which translates into substantial savings for the gas user. Field-adjustable capability enables process flexibility, while touch-of-a-button auto-source selection allows for field programming for either liquid or high-pressure service. New low- loss technology reduces residual return.

Materials of construction include brass barstock bodies, neoprene or Viton seats, PTFE and Viton seals, and 40-micron filters. Maximum inlet pressure is 3,000 psi (210 BAR), temperature range is 0 to 140° F, and inlet-outlet connections are ½-inch female NPT. Weight is 67 pounds, and Cv is 1.0.
