MSA Announces Ultima® RF Wireless Network System

Wireless Communications for Area Gas Monitoring Applications

The Ultima RF Wireless Network System from MSA Instrument Division is a state-of-the-art, high-performance gas detection system that combines the digital networking benefits of the Ultima PLUS System with the latest in wireless communication technology.

The Ultima RF System brings peer-to-peer digital communication and wireless radio signal transmission to area gas monitoring. Each system is comprised of key components-digital-output gas monitors, network relays and digital displays-used to build a stand-alone safety system. Components are housed in rugged, stainless steel enclosures with independent radio signal capabilities that eliminate the need for additional remote transmitter units.

Each system component operates over a 902-928 MHz frequency hopping spread spectrum, ensuring high performance and reliable communication. Data is transferred at 19.2k baud up to 1,500 ft. indoors and 1-2 miles line-of-sight outdoors.

Features of the Ultima RF Wireless Network System include:

o Unlimited number of system configurations and layouts

o Digital transmission provides more than just a 4-20mA output

o Reduced installation costs through the elimination of expensive wiring and trenching requirements

o No need for a central supervisory controller or PC

o Variety of power options: 12/24 VDC, 115 VAC and solar power

Each Ultima RF Wireless Network System allows for up to 40 digital-output gas monitors, 5 network relays and 5 digital display modules. Peer-to-peer communication between these components ensures system integrity and reliable gas monitoring.

The Ultima RF System is suitable for indoor and outdoor general-purpose applications, including refineries, petrochemical plants, steel mills, water and wastewater plants, tank farms and general industry.
