Smith Equipment's Super Durable Gas Axe Makes Scrap of Heavy Metal

- Cuts steel up to 24-inches thick
- Operates with all fuel gases
- Less tip consumption

WATERTOWN, S.D., 9 December 2005-Smith Equipment, a leading manufacturer of premium oxy-fuel equipment, now offers its new Gas Axe Oxy-Fuel Torch. Engineered for high capacity demolition and metal scrapping applications, the heavy-duty Gas Axe Torch cuts steel up to 24-inches (610 mm) thick. For use with oxygen and any fuel gas such as acetylene, propane-based fuels, Mapp or natural gas, the Gas Axe is a versatile tool that exceeds the needs of the most demanding metal scrapping and demolition operations. To meet a wide range of demolition applications, Smith offers the Gas Axe Torch in 3-, 4-, 5- and 6-foot lengths and with various head angles.

Heavy-Duty Design
Because demolition operations expose torch components to harsh environments, Smith's highly resilient Graf-Tite seat material protects the cutting tip from nicks, provides consistent gas tight seating and requires less cutting tip replacements compared to competitive metal-to-metal seat tip designs. To maximize productivity, Slip-In cutting tips hand tighten without tools, while the Gas Axe's heavy-duty manganese bronze head and tube supports resist warping caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Stainless steel ball-style valves provide positive seating and feature drag adjustments for desired valve resistance.

For added resistance against flashbacks and mixing tube burnout, the Gas Axe uses thick stainless steel three-tube construction to keep gases separate until mixed in the tip and features superior Ease-On cutting oxygen to protect the operator from slag blow-back. The Gas Axe features a durable, ergonomic brass-raised rib handle design to create a positive operator grip and a reversible cutting lever, which can be mounted on either the top or the bottom of the torch body.
