New Sub-spindle for QUEST Gang Tool Lathes

The all-new 6000-rpm, 3-hp sub-spindle on QUEST GT27SP Super-Precision gang tool CNC lathes allow machining complex arcs and angles on parts up to 1" in diameter (bar and slug capable). The sub-spindle facilitates exacting part transfer with the main spindle, it is canned cycle capable, and features a complete Fanuc system (motor, drive and I/O). Five back-end working tool stations are included for tools up to .625". Finished parts are spring ejected into the machine's parts chute-cut-off is provided by an air-over-oil actuated vertical cut-off slide.

The sub-spindle uses S25-HS Dead-Length hardened & ground collets that provide exacting part length control-soft collets are available for special workholding applications. The air-actuated collet closer features a 3-toggle clamping system.

The QUEST GT27SP lathe provides fast cycle times, fast setups, and precise machining for profitable, lean manufacturing. This lathe is manufactured with a 5C collet 1-1/16" bar capacity spindle or a 16C 1-5/8" capacity option-an 8,000-rpm high-speed main spindle is featured on machines equipped with a 5C spindle.

Hardinge-exclusive interchangeable tool top plates dramatically reduce setup times. Pre-tooled top plates, each holding up to twelve tools, can be removed and interchanged within .0002" in under one minute. Tools can be added or removed from any location without disturbing any other tool. Repeat jobs can typically save 50% to 80% (or more) on setup time. Cut-to-cut time is also drastically reduced with the gang-tool configuration (no time lost on turret indexing).

A special-accuracy main spindle with .000015" part roundness capability is standard. The patented collet-ready spindle yields faster feeds and higher speeds with exacting accuracy. Every machine includes accuracy certification.
