Gang Tool Lathe offers small parts turning.

Press Release Summary:

Prodigy GT-27 Single Spindle Lathe features polymer composite base that resists oxidants, thermal distortion, and vibration. Precision is achieved through incorporation of non-heat generating collet closers, absence of turret, and standard third indexing axis. Since lathe can index in 1° increments, live tooling can be used for side drilling and milling operations. Maximum spindle speed is 6,000 rpm and maximum production bar work is up to 1 1/16 in. diameter.

SNK's New Prodigy GT-27 Gang Tool Lathe Offers Optimum Precision and Speed for Small Parts Turning

Elk Grove Village, IL - (July 21, 2004) SNK, a world-leading manufacturer of bridge type machining centers and multi-axis profilers is proud to announce their new line of polymer based small accurate machine tools under the new Prodigy brand. The Prodigy GT-27 (by SNK) gang tool lathe built with a polymer base, precision components and a Fanuc control provides high accuracy and low cost machining.

SNK's Prodigy has combined the best of both American and Japanese engineering and manufacturing to produce the new Prodigy GT-27 Single Spindle Gang Tool Lathe. The result is an American-made small part gang tool lathe that delivers optimum accuracy and cycle times.

Compared to traditional cast-iron or Meehanite casting, a polymer composite base provides significant vibration reduction and improved surface finish, while extending tool life by up to 40%. Furthermore, the polymer is resistant to oxidants and thermal distortion. The Prodigy GT-27, with its polymer base, weighs in at 3420 lbs. This heavyweight construction provides unmatched rigidity and superior accuracy.

Precision is further achieved through the incorporation of non-heat generating collet closers, the absence of a turret and a standard third indexing axis. The Prodigy GT-27 can index in 1 degree increments. As a result, live tooling can be used for side drilling and milling operations, performing both simple and complex operations easily.

The nature of the design of the gang tool lathe, where the absence of a turret eliminates tool changes, lends itself to increased cycle times, as well as precision. The Prodigy GT-27's spindle speeds reach up to 6,000 rpm.

SNK's Prodigy GT-27's Fanuc Controller contributes to ease of operation, as well as faster and more responsive performance (with the inclusion of brushless digital servo drives).

The Prodigy GT-27 is ideal for both first and secondary machining operations in a variety of applications, including medical, automotive, commercial, faucet, ceramics and fasteners. Maximum production bar work is up to 1 1/16" diameter.

Prodigy's local service and support is provided through SNK's extensive full service dealer network. The expertise of SNK's dealer network allows for customization with live tools, bar feeders, loaders/unloaders, options and applications support.

The new Prodigy GT-27 (by SNK) will be unveiled at IMTS 2004, Booth # A-8432. For more information, visit www.snkamerica.com, or contact SNK America, Inc., 1800 Howard Street, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, Phone: (866) 379-6068, Fax: (860) 379-6095,E-mail: prodigy@snkamerica.com.
