Press Release Summary:
Step-up converter APE1612-3, capable of driving up to 8 white LEDs in series for backlighting applications, uses current mode, 1.2 MHz fixed frequency architecture to regulate LED current, which is set using external current sense resistor. While 300 mV feedback voltage reduces power loss and promotes efficiency, 200 Hz to 200 kHz range enables use in PWM dimming. Over-voltage, UVLO, current limiting, and thermal shutdown protection features are standard.
Original Press Release:
New, Efficient LED Driver from Advanced Power Electronics Corp. Suits Backlighting Applications
Can handle up to eight white LEDs in series; full protection features
San Jose, CA -- Advanced Power Electronics Corp. (USA), a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of MOS power semiconductors for DC-DC power conversion applications, has launched a new step-up converter capable of efficiently driving up to eight white LEDs in series for backlighting applications. The APE1612-3 uses current mode, 1.2MHz fixed frequency architecture to regulate the LED current, which is set using an external current sense resistor.
The APE1612-3 features a low 300mV feedback voltage that reduces power loss and improves efficiency. The OV pin monitors the output voltage and turns off the converter if an over-voltage condition is present due to an open circuit condition. The APE1612-3 includes under-voltage lockout, current limiting and thermal shutdown protection preventing damage from an output overload.
Comments Ralph Waggitt, President/CEO, Advanced Power Electronics Corp. (USA): “Small size and high efficiency make the APE1612-3 ideally suited for backlighting applications. A wide 200Hz to 200kHz range enables the device to be used in PWM dimming.”
The APE1612TY-HF-3 is shipped in a small RoHS/REACH-compliant TSOT-26 package. More data is available at http://www.a-powerusa.com/docs/APE1612-3.pdf
