Fujitsu to Introduce New FlexRay Controller, Graphics Display Controller and High-Speed 32-Bit CAN MCUs for Vehicle Applications at Convergence 2006

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 11 // -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will introduce a new FlexRay controller and the latest member of its industry-leading family of graphics display controllers (GDCs) for vehicle navigation systems at Convergence 2006 in Detroit Oct. 16-20. Fujitsu also will announce a high-speed 32-bit CAN microcontroller for the automotive market.

The company will hold a briefing on new products and technologies for the automotive market on Monday, Oct. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. in media room "A." Fujitsu will be at booth 819.

The new Fujitsu FlexRay controller is designed to complement all standard automotive buses, including the Controller Area Network (CAN) and Local Interconnect Network (LIN). FlexRay-based technology, which can provide up to 20 times the throughput of CAN, is expected to gradually replace CAN as automakers and their suppliers adopt x-by-wire solutions in new generations of vehicles.

The Fujitsu MB86297 graphics controller is built with a high-performance core designed for the latest generation of automotive information and entertainment systems including head-end units and fully configurable instrument clusters that require high-quality and versatile HMI. Fujitsu will also introduce its MB91460 CAN 32-bit MCU series. The MB91F464AA and 65KA are for automotive body control, including door, sheet and air conditioning, while the MB91F467RA is for information system control, including car navigation and audio equipment.

FMA also will feature its SmartCODEC, a newly announced image-compression technology for use in automotive applications that increases the efficiency of the IDB-1394 standard for in-vehicle entertainment systems. SmartCODEC features a compression rate of one-third, and a compression-decompression time of just two to three milliseconds that enables compression and multiplex transmission of videos. The technology will be incorporated into IDB-1394 compliant microcontrollers in early 2007 (See related press release announced September 21 by Fujitsu Laboratories Limited, www.fujitsu.com/global/news/pr/archives/month/2006/20060921-01.html ). The 1394 controllers will combine two of Fujitsu's core strengths: 1394 controllers and AV CODEC. Fujitsu is now uniting these core strengths to create robust, cost-effective IDB-1394 controllers for the automotive AV environment.
