Fujitsu to Feature WiMAX SoC Integration with Solectek at WCA International Symposium 2007, January 16-19, San Jose, California

Company to Speak on Deployments of Fixed and Mobile WiMAX Technology, Publish White Paper, 'Surveillance System Applications Using Fixed WiMAX' and Technical Backgrounder, 'Design of Subscriber Station Software Stack Using Fujitsu 802.16-2004 SoC Reference Kit'

WCA International Symposium and Business Expo, SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 15 // -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a leading provider of robust and highly integrated wireline and wireless system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for next-generation networks, will show innovative fixed wireless systems from its customer Solectek, based on the Fujitsu WiMAX SoC, at booth #110 at WCA International Symposium and Business Expo 2007, January 16 - 19, 2007.

Additionally, Ray Abrishami, senior director and head of FMA's Wireless Products Group, will speak on the panel, "WiMAX Service Provider Deployments Using Both IEEE 802.16d and IEEE 802.16e Equipment." The panel will take place on Tuesday, January 16, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Fujitsu technology featured at WCA will include the company's architectures in both mobile and fixed WiMAX SoC.

The Fujitsu Mobile WiMAX SoC architecture encompasses:

o Full IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard compliance
o Highly integrated MAC/PHY mixed-signal baseband processor
o Support for all required channel bandwidths and modulation schemes
o 90nm process coupled with compact BGA packaging

The Mobile SoC parallels the successful formula of Fujitsu's Fixed WiMAX SoC, which features:

o Full IEEE 802.16-2004 standard compliance
o Fully integrated MAC/PHY mixed-signal baseband processor
o Support for base station and subscriber station applications
o Fully integrated RF-BB reference design with software

For fixed applications, the Fujitsu WiMAX SoC MB87M3550 supports channel bandwidths from 1.75MHz to 20MHz, and can operate in either TDD or FDD mode. When using 64QAM modulation in a 20MHz channel and with all 192 sub-carriers supported, the SoC data rate can reach up to 75Mbps.

The Fujitsu SoC incorporates sophisticated processing power, including a powerful main RISC engine that implements the 802.16 upper-layer MAC, scheduler, drivers, protocol stacks and user application software. A secondary RISC/DSP co-processor executes lower-layer MAC functions, offloading processing from the upper-layer MAC and enhancing total performance.

Fujitsu will also publish a new white paper on the use of fixed WiMAX for surveillance system applications and a technology backgrounder; "Design of Subscriber Station Software Stack Using the Fujitsu 802.16-16-2004 SoC Reference Kit." The white paper outlines how the maturing IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and new innovations in fixed wireless are making security surveillance affordable and easy to deliver for mainstream applications. The technology backgrounder details developer use of one Fujitsu's WiMAX SoC reference kit and representative software stacks to design a flexible WiMAX subscriber station for a variety of applications
