Fujitsu to Begin Next Document Imaging Legacy With Release of New Workgroup Scanners

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 15 -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today introduced the next evolution in workgroup scanning with the release of two new document imaging scanners -- the Fujitsu fi-5120C and Fujitsu fi-5220C. The new color duplex workgroup scanners build on the strengths of the currently shipping Fujitsu fi-4120C2 and fi-4220C2, two of the best- selling workgroup scanners on the market, according to market forecast and analysis reports from InfoTrends/CAP Ventures.

"Fujitsu is proud of the work it has done defining and advancing the workgroup segment of the document imaging industry," said Scott Francis, director of product marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "We strive to deliver the most advanced features and functionality in all of our products and the fi-5120C and fi-5220C are no exception. They are the result of decades of research and development that allowed us to pinpoint the paramount balance of functionality, performance and cost."

The new Fujitsu fi-5120C and fi-5220C (flatbed model) color, duplex scanners advance Fujitsu document imaging expertise with functionality not found on any other product in the workgroup scanning space. The introduction of ultrasonic double feed detection provides unmatched paper handling by automatically detecting when two pages are simultaneously fed through the scanner. Additionally, embossed card scanning allows easy information capture of credit cards, insurance cards and other raised letter plastic identification through the automatic document feeder (ADF). Best in class speed of 24 pages per minute (ppm) / 45 images per minute (ipm) at 300 dpi monochrome and grayscale, and 24 ppm / 24 ipm at 300 dpi full color allow users to quickly create searchable PDFs. Other key features include:
-- Larger auto de-skew "over scan" area to prevent lost data
-- Hardware JPEG compression
-- Dual Ultra SCSI and Hi-Speed USB interface
-- Selectable white/black background for complete VRS support and improved thin-document scanning
-- Auto page-size detection and 34" long document scanning
-- Daily duty cycle of up to 1,000 pages per day

"Fujitsu continues to set the standard for the workgroup scanner category," said Susan Moyse, analyst, InfoTrends/CAP Ventures. "It's great to see a vendor continually push the innovation envelope by providing the technology needed to bring document imaging to the forefront. Fujitsu's new scanners will be especially important to businesses today, which need the tools to support new industry regulations and corporate document policies."

In addition to offering best-in-class functionality and value, Fujitsu also leads the industry with unmatched standard software bundles for its scanners. Continuing in that tradition, today Fujitsu is the only vendor to offer workgroup scanners, including the Fujitsu fi-5120C and fi-5220C, bundled with Kofax(R) VRS(R) 4.0 image-perfecting technology ($325 Retail Value) and Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 7.0 Standard ($299 Retail Value).
