Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 9500 Platform Receives Light Reading Leading Light Award for "Best New Product"

New Packet Optical Networking Platform Combines Ethernet, ROADM and SONET Breakthroughs with Large-Scale Deployment Experience

New York, NY, October 18, 2007 - Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that their FLASHWAVE® 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) has been named "Best New Product - Public Company" by Light Reading as part of their Leading Lights Award Program for 2007. The platform provides a unique modular integration of three fundamental technologies - connection-oriented Ethernet, ROADM and SONET - into a single addressable optical networking class element that dramatically lowers the cost of deploying and operating the packet-centric metro networks that today's carriers demand.

"The transition to the next-generation metro network has begun, and network operators require new solutions beyond legacy systems that offer limited integration, or other systems that lack a way to support Ethernet, ROADM and SONET simultaneously," said Sterling Perrin, senior analyst at Heavy Reading. "Fujitsu has built a brand new product that takes advantage of recent technology advances in ROADM integration, ASIC technology, packet processing, and system software. The potential for this product makes it a clear choice for the Best New Product award."

"This prestigious award from Light Reading is affirmation of all the hard work that went into the development and launch of the FLASHWAVE 9500 platform," said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "Our development team has made complicated tasks appear relatively simple to the user through the use of cutting-edge technology and the freedom of a clean-slate approach. At the same time, the performance of the system stands far above what we are hearing is commercially available elsewhere. I accept this award on behalf of everyone who had a hand in bringing this ground-breaking product to market."

Light Reading's Leading Lights Awards recognize top public and private companies and their executives for outstanding achievements in next-generation communications. The "Best New Product" award is given to the company that has developed a market-leading product that, through engineering and technical excellence, enables the deployment of profitable next-generation telecommunications services. This year's fourth annual awards were announced on Monday, October 15, 2007 following the first day of Light Reading's Ethernet Expo.
