Fujitsu Adds FreeRTOS.org(TM) Port on Its 16FX and FR MB91460 Series MCUs

Langen & Nurnberg, Germany, February 26th 2008 - Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) is pleased to announce the availability of a FreeRTOS.org(TM) port on its 16FX and FR MB91460 series microcontrollers.

FreeRTOS.org is a portable, open source, mini real-time kernel that is completely free to use, even in commercial applications, providing a cost-effective solution for low- and high-volume applications. OpenRTOS is available from WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems, and offers the benefits of FreeRTOS.org under a commercial licence. Safety-critical applications can also be supported with WITTENSTEIN's SafeRTOS, an IEC 61508 Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 compliant solution based on FreeRTOS.org that provides an ideal solution for a wide range of safety and commercially critical applications. FreeRTOS.org can be downloaded from www.FreeRTOS.org. The new port is included in FreeRTOS.org V4.7.2, and will be maintained in subsequent releases.

All products are backed by full development and support services including a pre-configured example application demonstrating the kernel features, expediting learning, and permitting 'out of the box' development. Free support is provided by an active user community. Commercial support along with a full development service is also provided.

Fujitsu's 16FX series of 16-bit microcontrollers provide customers with major performance enhancements over its predecessor the 16LX. These include up to five times the computing power, a significant 80% reduction in power consumption (at the same performance) and greater on-chip functionality. The company's MB91460 32-bit RISC (FR) series microcontrollers are a 0.18µm successor to the successful MB91360 series. The transfer to a smaller geometry brings the advantages of lower power consumption, higher speed and the choice of additional new features on the same die size, or similar features on a smaller die. Both series are well-suited to industrial control applications.
