FTTH Supervisory Channel Filter is based on FBG technology.

Press Release Summary:

Able to monitor Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network performance, connectivity, and reliability, 1901FBF PowerBragg(TM) identifies network faults for hastened network recovery and subscriber service restoration. Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology enables channel filter to be integrated into single-mode optical fibers connecting subscribers to FTTH network. This enables real-time, remote monitoring of FTTH connection to subscriber's premises from central office.

Avanex Introduces FTTH Supervisory Channel Filter Based upon FBG Technology at Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2006

FREMONT, Calif., March 1 /-- Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today announced the introduction of its 1901FBF PowerBragg(TM) Supervisory Channel Filter for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) applications, which is based upon its proprietary Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology. It will be displayed at OFC 2006, booth 2640 on March 7 - 9, in Anaheim, Calif.

Real time monitoring of the FTTH network's performance, connectivity, and reliability allows automatic and accurate identification of network faults. This enables faster network recovery and the prompt restoration of subscriber services, which reduces operational expenditure and maximizes subscriber revenues.

The 1901FBF enables the remote monitoring of the FTTH connection to a subscriber's premises from the service providers central office. Thanks to its extremely low insertion loss, the Supervisory Channel Filter does not impact the performance of the FTTH network for subscriber applications.

Fiber Bragg Grating technology removes the need for expensive component packaging and minimizes any additional field installation costs by enabling the integration of Supervisory Channel Filters into the single-mode optical fibers connecting subscribers' to an FTTH network.

"The 1901FBF integrates Avanex's long history of Fiber Bragg Grating design with the benefits of modern high volume contract manufacturing to offer a high performance, ultra low cost device for the rapidly expanding FTTH market," said Giovanni Barbarossa, CTO of Avanex. "The introduction of the 1901FBF confirms Avanex's position as a major supplier of Fiber Bragg Gratings to the optical communications industry and signals Avanex's intention to expand business into access networks."
