Hendrickson Launches Independent Front Suspension for Recreational Vehicles and Motorhomes

WOODRIDGE, Ill. - Hendrickson Truck Systems Group recently initiated production of the Hendrickson Independent Front Suspension(TM) (IFS(TM)) for motorhomes and recreational vehicles.

Delivering a premium ride, the IFS joins a growing Hendrickson product line for motorhome owners including AIRTEK® air-ride steer-axle suspension system; SOFTEK® mechanical steer-axle suspension system; HAS(TM) rear air-ride suspension system; and HTB(TM) non torque-reactive rear air-ride or mechanical suspension system.

"Hendrickson's IFS was designed specifically to address the needs of motor home users. The IFS delivers superior ride and handling compared to other front air suspensions," comments Jacob Madden, segment manager for RV suspension products at Hendrickson.

With a 57-degree wheel cut, the Hendrickson IFS provides exceptional maneuverability. In addition, the lightweight IFS system trims up to 200 pounds compared to competitive 14,600-pound capacity systems. Available in 14,600 and 12,600-pound capacities, plans include development of a 16,600-pound system.

The IFS advanced short-long arm (SLA) design helps keep tires in better contact with the road surface throughout suspension travel by reducing the camber change. The design also reduces bump steer for better handling over rough roads.

In addition, the IFS delivers improved steering feel and ride comfort by reducing friction with the introduction of a kingpin design instead of ball joints. The two-piece knuckle, a technology shared with AIRTEK and SOFTEK, also reduces maintenance hassles.

For flexibility and ease of installation, Hendrickson supplies the IFS as a module, compatible with single- or double-rail chassis platforms. The IFS accommodates industry standard steering gear components and full drum or disc brakes.
