Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies Simrit on Board with Bombardier CSeries Aircraft's First Flight

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies Simrit (Freudenberg-NOK) is proud to have been on board the Bombardier* CSeries* aircraft yesterday as it completed its first flight. Freudenberg-NOK, a leading global sealing supplier to the aerospace industry, supplied various sealing components to the aircraft’s airframe and engine system.

“From the airframe to the engine propulsion systems, Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft represents some of the most advanced technology and we’re honored to have contributed to the aircraft’s successful first flight,” said Vinay Nilkanth, vice president of global sales, aerospace, Freudenberg-NOK. “As a leader in aerospace materials and sealing technologies, Freudenberg-NOK is able to support large commercial aircraft programs like the CSeries jetliner from initial design and development through qualification, engine validation testing and into flight testing.”

The successful first flight of Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft marks a major milestone towards its entry-into-service. Freudenberg-NOK has contributed a wide variety of sealing products and systems to the CSeries aircraft program.

Freudenberg-NOK used its proprietary low-density silicone to reduce the weight of its sealing component – thereby contributing to the aircraft’s overall fuel efficiency – while the company’s low-friction radial shaft seals decrease the loss of available power. Drawing on its unmatched material technology expertise, the company’s O-Rings provide increased compatibility with advanced fluids, such as low-density phosphate ester fluids and high temperature synthetic oils.

The CSeries aircraft is the only all-new aircraft designed to meet today’s operational realities. Optimized for the single-aisle, 100- to 149-seat market, the CSeries family of aircraft delivers the lowest operating costs in its class, a significant fuel burn advantage, exceptional operational flexibility, widebody comfort and an unmatched environmental scorecard.

“Demand for single-aisle aircraft is forecasted to grow over the next 20 years within the emerging regions of Asia, Eastern Europe and South America,” said Nilkanth. “To best serve these customers, Freudenberg-NOK is working closely with key aerospace companies and their system suppliers to ensure safe and reliable air travel for passengers around the world.”
