Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies Rounds Out Portfolio of Flat Gaskets with Two New PTFE Variations

Offers a strong trio of solutions for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The pharmaceutical and chemical industries both place high demands on flat gaskets. In their processes, flange connections must not only withstand increasing surface pressures and high temperatures but reliable sealing must also be guaranteed during fluctuating loads or changes in internal pressure. Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies currently offers three types of products covering all the requirements of these sectors.

The tried-and-tested blue flat gasket FG-120, based on DIN 28091-2, is a graphite seal reinforced with aramid fibers. It complies with the specifications of EC Regulation 1935/2004 and TA Luft and stands out for its excellent mechanical properties and for its good chemical and thermal resistance. Due to its graphite filler, the seal is suited to operating temperatures ranging between -100 and +300 degrees C.

The white flat gasket FG-180 is based on DIN 28091-3. It is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with structured silicate as a filler. This gasket is primarily designed for use in the pharmaceutical industry and complies with the specifications of TA Luft and FDA CFR 177.1550. The use of silicate as a filler provides better resistance values than flat gaskets with a barium sulfate filler. Flat gaskets made of FG-180 can be employed at temperatures ranging between -200 and +210 degrees C.

White FG-360 is another PTFE product based on DIN 28091-3. It is 100 percent composed of pure, expanded PTFE (ePTFE) and is available either as a stamped flat gasket or a self-adhesive sealing band (FG-360 Joint Sealant). This material's special aspect is its unique flexibility. The FG-360 flat gasket meets all the requirements of FDA CFR 177.1550, TA Luft and USP Class VI - 121 degrees C. This makes it ideal for use in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Out of all the different types of flat gaskets, it offers the best resistance values - in nearly every medium. Both the sealing band and the sheet format are distinguished by their special resistance in temperature cycles ranging between -270 and +310 degrees C. Improved cold flow properties are another advantage of ePTFE compared to PTFE.

The self-adhesive flat gasket band is delivered on special rolls to facilitate storage and use. The outer packaging on the rolls also protects the band from external contaminants. It can be individually customized on-site, making it possible to seal complex shapes, joints, covers or frames quickly and reliably. The flat gaskets FG-120, FG-180 and FG-360 are the ideal trio to meet the special requirements of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
