Frequency Drive operates with explosion-proof motors.

Press Release Summary:

With dV/dT filter, line filter, and ATEX-certified PTC monitoring for ex-certified motors, Sinamics G180 is suited for operating pumps, fans, and compressors in chemical, oil, gas, and process industries. Variable drive covers output range from 2.2–6,600 kW at voltage levels of 400/500/690 V. Further developed version of Dynavert T converter, which is designed according to recommendation NE 37 of Namur standard, has terminal strip for variable-speed drives.

Original Press Release:

Siemens Presents Specific Drive for the Chemical, Oil, Gas and Process Industry: Sinamics G180

• Further development of the Loher Dynavert T converter with optimized user-friendliness

• Particularly suitable for operation with explosion-proof motors

With the new Sinamics G180 converter the Siemens Drive Technologies Division now offers a specific drive solution for the chemical, oil, gas and process industry. This new drive solution, which is a further development of the Dynavert T frequency drive, has now been seamlessly incorporated into the Sinamics drive family under the product name Sinamics G180. The user-friendliness and commissioning of this drive have been especially optimized by integrating it into the Sizer and DT Configu-rator engineering tools. With its industry-specific features such as dV/dT filter, line filter and Atex-certified PTC monitoring for ex-certified motors, this efficient drive is ideally suited for operating pumps, fans and compressors also in combination with explosion-proof motors.

In the chemical and petrochemical industry with its explosion hazard, aggressive atmosphere and high temperatures, high demands are made on drive solutions. Such high requirements are met by the new Sinamics G180 frequency drive which can fulfill customer specific requirements in terms of the “No deviation philosophy”. With its industry-specific features, the ATEX-certified PTC monitoring device has been specially designed for operation with explosion-proof motors. This further-developed version of the Dynavert T converter is characterized by an optimized de-gree of usability. Thanks to the integrated dV/dT filter, long motor cable runs up to 350 meters are also no problem. This frequency converter, which is designed ac-cording to recommendation NE 37 of the Namur standard, has in its standard ver-sion a terminal strip for variable-speed drives. By means of the ATEX-certified temperature monitoring facility in combination with the “STO” function, it is possible to operate the explosion-proof motor without the need for the normally required line contactor. Evaluation takes place directly via the PTC Thermistor installed in the motor winding as sole protection. Optimized pulse patterns further enable high utilization of the motor voltage with low additional motor noise.

Dimensioning the converter is now also much easier, as it has been integrated in the Sizer for Siemens Drives engineering tool and in the DT Configurator. The Sinamics G180 can therefore be configured quickly and easily, enabling it to be seamlessly incorporated into the Sinamics system design tools. The variable drive in industryspecific version covers an output range from 2.2 kW to 6,600 kW at the voltage levels 400/500/690 V (Voltage Range 230V – 690V). It is suitable not just for use in pumps, fans and compressors, but also for conveyor applications, and for mixers and extruders in the chemical, oil, gas and process industry.
