Combination of Freescale Media5200 platform and Tilcon Interface Development Suite enables advanced 2D/3D human-machine interfaces Media 5200 Platform
AUSTIN, Texas - March 28, 2007 - Freescale Semiconductor and Tilcon Software have teamed to deliver sophisticated platform solutions for the telematics industry. The combined hardware/software solutions are designed to enhance graphic display performance, speed time to market, reduce system cost and offer a productive "out-of-the-box" experience for embedded system developers.
The collaboration between these two industry leaders unites Freescale's Media5200 processor platform with the Tilcon Interface Development Suite (IDS), a multi-platform graphical user interface (GUI) technology that delivers robust, highly interactive GUIs for real-time and embedded applications. Automotive OEMs and telematics developers can leverage Freescale and Tilcon's hardware and software platforms to develop innovative, multi-purpose 2D and 3D vehicle displays that include instrumentation, diagnostics, navigation, communication and multimedia functions.
Target applications for the combined solutions include high-performance automotive telematics systems and advanced instrument clusters, as well as commercial and military vehicle cockpit displays, consumer products, high-end industrial control and medical monitoring systems.
"Freescale's collaboration with Tilcon, one of our valued mobileGT(TM) Alliance partners, will help enable powerful embedded GUI systems for advanced telematics systems while keeping design costs to a minimum," said Mike Bryars, manager of Freescale's Telematics Operation. "Together, we are developing performance-optimized graphics hardware/software stacks designed to take advantage of the integrated hardware acceleration technology and high-speed rendering capabilities of our current and next-generation processors for telematics built on Power Architecture(TM) technology."
Freescale's Media5200 platform provides a comprehensive development environment for creating highly integrated telematics and navigation systems for use in automobiles. At the heart of the Media5200 platform is the high-performance MPC5200 processor built on Power Architecture technology and optimized for in-vehicle telematics applications.
"Customers who want to deliver rich 2D and 3D display functionality will be able to leverage the powerful combination of the Tilcon IDS and Freescale's Media5200 processors and development tools," said Prosanto Sarkar, vice president of marketing at Tilcon Software. "This industry-leading collaboration addresses our customers' demands for tightly integrated graphical display solutions, thereby greatly accelerating time to market and enhancing time to revenue."
About the mobileGT(TM) platform
Freescale's mobileGT platform refers to both an architecture and an alliance of key vendors in the automotive navigation and telematics industries. Pooling the talents of processor suppliers, RTOS vendors, software module IP providers, system integrators and hardware add-on suppliers helps to ensure that developers will have optimized, off-the-shelf solutions when they need them. Freescale's mobileGT alliance members support and drive adoption of the Media5200 development platform.

About Tilcon's Interface Development Suite
With the Tilcon IDS, telematics developers can create fast, flicker-free interfaces, instrument clusters and complex visualization systems. Tilcon's rich feature set, support for multiple platforms and extensive experience with graphics development for real-time and embedded projects have resulted in an effective toolkit. Tilcon's IDS is used worldwide in demanding applications such as medical devices, transportation systems and industrial automation.
Tilcon's user interface technology is integrated with industry-leading RTOS technologies, hardware reference platforms and other complementary technologies, such as embedded browsers, haptics and touch screens. The Tilcon IDS offers OEMs a fully integrated solution that enables OEMs and integrators to focus on high-value user interface engineering, rather than low-value code generation, integration and debugging. Once completed, all screens will run unchanged on leading operating systems, such as Linux, QNX, VxWorks and micro OS solutions.
