Free Software Helps Entrepreneurs Compete with Big Wholesalers

Feb 09, 2008

Small wholesalers and distributors have been struggling to break into markets dominated by large trade corporations. Large companies use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software packages to improve the speed, accuracy, and access to information in their businesses. Many small wholesale businesses cannot afford the high cost and complexity of these systems, and instead struggle with labor-intensive manual work. But a newly released software package may help small wholesalers compete more effectively.

"It's exhausting," said an entrepreneur importing and reselling collectible toys, "there's so much to keep track of: customer orders, what inventory I have, where I keep it, invoices, payment, the works." In contrast, software systems used by larger companies do most of this automatically, with customer, vendor, and inventory databases automatically updated after each order, and pick lists telling warehouse workers exactly where to get products. This gives a huge advantage in efficiency and cost, making it hard for small businesses to compete.

Help may be on the way. Archon Systems Inc. recently released inFlow Inventory, a software package aimed at bridging the technology gap between large and small wholesalers. "We want to give entrepreneurs big-business boosts to efficiency and accuracy while keeping small-business simplicity and price in our design," said Louis Leung, founder of Archon Systems, "In fact, we're giving away inFlow Inventory Free Edition. Every wholesaler or distributor should try it and see how much it helps. Once we help you succeed and grow, come back to us and upgrade."

"I'm sick of the same old boring products on store shelves every year" said Leung, "That's why I want to help small businesses find and distribute the quirky and fun products that big business won't take a risk on."
