Framebuffer System extends battery life of consumer devices.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for inclusion in Customer Specific Standard Products, Frame Recycler Proven System Block allows handheld mobile system developers to conserve significant battery life. System removes display refresh responsibilities from CPU when no change in display content is present, allowing CPU to operate in power-down state until next change of display content is requested. Applications include e-readers, tablet computers, smartphones, and notebook computers.

SUNNYVALE, California - QuickLogic Announces Innovative Framebuffer Solution to Extend Battery Life of Consumer Devices

QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the leader in low power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), is proud to announce the new Frame Recycler Proven System Block (PSB) for inclusion in its CSSPs. The Frame Recycler PSB allows handheld mobile system developers to conserve significant battery life by allowing the CPU to shut down when display content is unchanged.

While mobile consumer device displays are required to be refreshed at up to 60 times per second, quite often the actual displayed content does not change at the same rate. A perfect example is the LCD-based tablet or E-reader-while the screen content may not change for seconds or even minutes at a time, the CPU typically provides identical content updates to the display. This architecture is highly inefficient from a power handling perspective because the same frames are sent repeatedly. QuickLogic's Frame Recycler PSB solves this issue by removing display refresh responsibilities from the CPU when no change in display content is present, allowing the CPU to operate in a power-down state until the next change of display content is requested.

"The Frame Recycler PSB is another example of QuickLogic's commitment to providing power-savings solutions to the handheld consumer device market," said Paul Karazuba, QuickLogic's senior marketing manager. "The Frame Recycler PSB allows the host CPU to effectively shut down while in a static display content condition, providing much longer battery life."

QuickLogic's Frame Recycler is designed for a myriad of consumer devices, from e-readers to tablet computers, smartphones, and notebooks. Information on the Frame Recycler can be found at www.quicklogic.com/frame-recycler-overview/, or by contacting QuickLogic sales at info@quicklogic.com.
