Four New England Hospitals Select AMICAS Vision Series PACS

Valley Radiologists Professional Associates provides a single radiology environment for four rural, critical care hospitals with disparate IT systems

BOSTON, May 11 -- AMICAS, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced that Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (Lebanon, NH), Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (Windsor, VT), New London Hospital (New London, NH), and Valley Regional Hospital (Claremont, NH) - all of which are rural, critical access hospitals sharing a single radiology group - have chosen AMICAS Vision Series PACS as the platform on which they will consolidate their imaging IT needs."

AMICAS distinguished itself from the competition in its approach to solving our image and information management needs - the needs of a growing multi-hospital radiology group," said Dr. Mark Hansberry, radiologist with the six-member group of Valley Radiologists Professional Associates (Claremont, NH). "All four of these hospitals are served by a single radiology group - a radiology group that is facing a shortage of radiologists. With AMICAS PACS, these hospitals will share a common PACS infrastructure, which will allow our team to operate at maximum efficiency."

Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, which runs on a MEDITECH(TM) HIS, is a healthcare system supported by over 400 employees, physicians, and allied health professionals, in over 30 specialties and clinical areas. Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, which runs on a CPSI HIS, is a 91-bed critical access facility offering physician specialties in areas as varied as emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, and family practice. New London Hospital, which runs on a McKesson HIS, is a 25-bed rural community hospital with a 58-bed long term extended care center dedicated to serving the Lake Sunapee region in central New Hampshire. Valley Regional Hospital, which runs on a Siemens HIS, is a nonprofit community hospital serving Sullivan County, NH, and offering specialties as varied as maternal and child healthcare, diagnostic testing, emergency care, and surgical services.

"We were looking for a one-of-a-kind vendor - one that could focus on our unique needs as a group of four independent hospitals sharing a single radiology group," said Lorraine Nichols, director of information services at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. "We found that vendor in AMICAS, which, because of the depth of their experience, is definitely up to the challenge of integrating their PACS with the four disparate information systems in use at these hospitals."

"As a group of hospitals, we were focused on the concept of a shared PACS infrastructure that would allow our common patients and physicians to move through our hospital systems without a lot of red tape or duplication of services," said John Rousseau, radiology manager at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. "With the RealTime Worklist(TM) and the Vision Reach(TM) software, we feel that we will be able to accomplish this goal."

AMICAS has a strong reputation as a leader in integrating images and radiology workflow with HIS, RIS, and EMR products from various vendors. Utilizing the latest in Web-based technology from Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, PACS 5.0 uses XML and supports healthcare standards such as DICOM and HL-7.

"We are excited about our new partnership with these four hospitals," said Peter McClennen, president and chief operating officer of AMICAS. "AMICAS PACS, designed specifically with integration in mind, has made a dramatic impact on the radiology technology landscape. These four New England hospitals join other satisfied AMICAS customers who take advantage of the power of the filmless and paperless workflow offered by Vision Series PACS."
