Fortinet Announces New Multi-gigabit Security Appliances for Large Enterprises

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 15 -- Fortinet -- the pioneer and market leader in Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based multi-threat security systems for real-time network protection -- today unveiled two new high-performance security appliances in its FortiGate system family for large enterprise networks that require comprehensive multi-threat protection and security system reliability features. Fortinet also announced new FortiAccel technology that significantly accelerates small packet firewall performance.

The new FortiGate-1000A is an ASIC-accelerated enterprise security appliance that delivers multi-gigabit performance, high availability and multi-threat security features. The new FortiGate-1000AFA2 appliance includes an additional two FortiAccel small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports that accelerate small packet performance required for voice, video and other multimedia streaming applications -- and provides multi-gigabit, wire-speed firewall performance for all-sized packets.

Key features in the new FortiGate-1000A and FortiGate-1000AFA2 enterprise security appliances include:

o Multi-gigabit Performance: With 10 copper gigabit 10/100/1000 Base-T
ports and new FortiASIC(TM) content processor 5 (CP5), the systems
become highly powerful appliances with multi-gigabit, wire speed
throughput.
o High availability: Includes clustering, device failure detection and
notification and dual hot-swappable power supply and fan features for
networks that require maximum availability.
o Integrated multi-threat protection: Integrates essential security
functions -- such as firewall, VPN, antivirus, Web filtering, intrusion
prevention, anti-spam and traffic shaping -- to protect against all
types of network and content threats.

Enterprise Security Appliances for Large Enterprises

The FortiGate-1000A and FortiGate-1000AFA2 appliances are well suited to protect large enterprise networks with a variety of mission critical applications that are segmented into various different departments, offices and telecommuter and mobile user devices. In a typical deployment scenario, the FortiGate-1000A systems would be deployed at both the Internet and Intranet gateway between multiple DMZs, a corporate segmented LAN, branch offices and mobile user connections scanning all traffic coming into and out of the network and various network segments. Using the new FortiAccel technology, the FortiGate-1000AFA2 systems are ideal to protect large enterprises with various network segments running multimedia streaming applications such as video-and-voice over IP.

"Large enterprises require complete content protection solutions that protect against the viruses, worms and blended threats that plague today's network environments -- while not interfering with the performance of mission-critical applications," said Chris Roeckl, vice president of corporate marketing for Fortinet. "The new FortiGate-1000A and 1000AFA2 appliances address critical pain points of large enterprises by delivering the gigabit throughput and high availability required to protect against evolving network threats in real time."

Fortinet's FortiGate security appliances provide the industry's broadest suite of security protections in a single platform. Deployed as an integrated or standalone solution, the FortiGate systems detect and eliminate today's threats as well as emerging blended threats that cannot be detected and eliminated by competitive solutions. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard(TM) Network, which provides continuous updates that ensure protection against the latest threats around the clock and around the world.
