Formica Corporation Adds FSC-Certified Laminates to Its Sustainable Product Offerings

Increases capacity to serve as green resource for building industry

CINCINNATI, June 20, 2011 - Formica Corporation's high pressure decorative laminates are now available with full Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification at no additional charge. FSC-certified Formica® Brand Laminate joins the recently unveiled e Series Solid Surfacing by Formica Group, the first major branded solid surfacing to contain post-consumer recycled content, as the latest surfacing options on the market designed to minimize environmental impact.

"Achieving this certification further cements Formica Corporation's position as a sustainable resource in the building industry," states Gavin Todd, Formica Group Development Manager. "This FSC measure guarantees that our decorative laminates manufactured in our plants in Evendale, Ohio, and St. Jean, Quebec, Canada, meet stringent environmental standards, providing customers in North America and Canada with environmentally responsible purchasing decisions that support their sustainability initiatives."

Formica Corporation attained FSC Chain of Custody certification in 2010. FSC-certified Formica® Brand Laminate may contribute towards LEED® projects under MR Credit 7: Certified Wood and will eliminate the need for minor component derogations or exceptions.

FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. "We're proud to add this internationally recognized standard-setting accreditation to our products," Todd adds. "The full range of Formica® high pressure decorative laminates will be available to customers as FSC-certified upon request."

In addition to FSC certification, Formica® Laminates are GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute under the GREENGUARD Standard for Low-Emitting Products, including the requirements for Children and Schools.
