Force Sensor Adapter interfaces sensors to PC.

Press Release Summary:

Model 1120 - FlexiForce Adapter connects to one of analog inputs on 1018 - PhidgetInterfaceKit 8/8/8. It is designed for use with FlexiForce sensor, which can measure force between almost any two surfaces and is durable enough for most environments. Featuring supply voltage range of 4.5-5.25 Vdc, adapter has current consumption at maximum load of 3.20 mA and consumes 10.9 mA at overload. Unit is accurate to ±5% of full scale.

Phidgets Releases the 1120 - FlexiForce Adapter

The easy way to interface Tekscan's Force Sensors to your Computer.

CALGARY, Alberta - Phidgets Inc. released today the 1120 - FlexiForce Adapter to make it easy for users to connect the popular Tekscan FlexiForce force sensors to their PC.

"Phidgets users have been using our voltage divider to interface the FlexiForce sensors. While it does work, it was not a very elegant solutions and it did have some reliability problems." says Chester Fitchett, CEO of Phidgets. "We decided to do it properly and we now offer an elegant, easy to use solution." adds Chester.

"This new product reaffirms our commitment to come up with products that make it easy for programmers to interface with a wide range of sensors without having to use a soldering iron or dig deep into technical specifications " says Bernard Rousseau, Director of Marketing.

Like all Phidgets sensors and adapters, the FlexiForce Adapter connects to one of the analog inputs on the 1018 - PhidgetInterfaceKit 8/8/8.

The FlexiForce sensor is an ultra-thin and flexible printed circuit, which can be easily integrated into most applications. With its paper-thin construction, flexibility and force measurement ability, the FlexiForce force sensor can measure force between almost any two surfaces and is durable enough to stand up to most environments.

We have also added three models of Tekscan's 8" FlexiForce sensors to our product line to cover the following force ranges: 0-1lb., 0-25lb., and 0-100lb.

Product Specifications

Supply Voltage Range: 4.5-5.25 VDC

Current Consumption at No Load: 2.60 mA

Current Consumption at Max Load: 3.20 mA

Current Consumption at Overload (Saturated Output): 10.9 mA

Accuracy: ±5% of full scale

Software Environment

"Unlike a lot of our competitor's products that require their users to write some firmware code in order to use their sensor, we are completely "Plug and Play" says Bernard Rousseau, Director of Marketing. "With Phidgets, you plug it in and start using it and when it comes to programming, the user, not us, decides which operating system and which computer language he wants to use", added Rousseau.

Users can program Phidgets using a simple yet powerful and well documented Application Programming Interfade (API) that is supported under Windows (2000, XP, Vista), Windows CE, Mac OS X, and Linux. Users can write programs in Visual Basic, VB.NET, C#, C/C++, Flash/Flex, Java, Labview, Matlab, ActionScript 3.0, and Cocoa.

Phidgets also provides programming examples for all its products to help programmers write their own programs. The API Libraries as well as the examples and the documentation are available at no charge on Phidgets.com.

Pricing and Availability

The 1120 - FlexiForce Adapter is available now. The suggested resale price is $11.00 Canadian.
