Foam Capabilities Highlighted at NPE

March 18, 2009

(Pawcatuck, Conn.)--Davis-Standard, LLC will promote its more than 40 years of foam extrusion expertise at NPE. Foam extrusion is an especially viable process for present economic conditions as foam products are lightweight and low density, conserving both materials and energy. This cost-effective means of production is especially effective for manufacturing sheet or board for thermal or sound insulation used in building products; energy absorption in packaging, automotive, toys and sports equipment; and for packaging such as lightweight meat and produce trays.

Davis-Standard supplies several types of extrusion systems for PS, PE and PP foam. Systems are available with precise gauge and basis weight control, specific screw geometry with thermally efficient barrel heating/cooling systems, and with capabilities for rates up to 3,700 pounds per hour. Some systems incorporate specialty annular dies for single ply or coextrusion AB, ABA and ABC structures, eliminating post lamination systems. Davis-Standard's proprietary flat die and calibration system is engineered for a board thickness range of 1 to 6 inches (25 to 150mm) at widths of 2 to 4 feet (.6 to 1.2 meters). The die set-up has features for reducing edge trim waste by as much as 50 percent.

In addition, Davis-Standard's high output foam processing screws are capable of out performing conventional foam screws by as much as 40 percent. Use of these screws requires no royalty or extra charge usage fees. Blowing agent injection units are available for hydrocarbons, atmospheric gases and specialty blends of blowing agents. Downstream components such as a cantilevered pull roll and foam sheet winder sets are also an option.
