Flux Cored Wire delivers all-position performance.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for use with 100% CO2 shielding gas, Formula XL®-550 provides X-ray quality welds in all positions and features added deoxidizers to cut through light rust and mill scale with minimal pre-cleaning. Low hydrogen level helps eliminate cracking and does not allow worm tracks to form in weld under normal working conditions. Available in .045, .052, and 1/16 in. diameters, wire retains impact toughness in applications where post-weld stress relief is required.

Hobart Brothers' Formula XL®-550 Wire Delivers High Impact Strength, All-position Performance
- Added deoxidizers weld through impurities
- Low diffusible hydrogen reduces crack sensitivity and moisture pick-up
- Retains impact toughness after stress relieving

TROY, Ohio. July 17, 2006 - Hobart Brothers introduces its Formula XL®-550 gas shielded flux cored wires for single- or multi-pass welding on ships, storage vessels, earth moving equipment, structural steel and offshore oil rigs, as well as for general mild steel applications. This wire delivers x-ray quality welds in all positions and features added deoxidizers to cut through light rust and mill scale with minimal pre-cleaning.

Designed for use with 100 percent CO2 shielding gas, Formula XL-550 wire is available in diameters of .045-, .052- and 1/16- in. The .045-in. and .052-in. wire has a dual AWS (American Welding Society) classification of E71T-1 and E71T-12CJ H4, and the 1/16-in. wire has a dual AWS classification of E71T-1 and E71T-12CJ H8. These wires offer high impact values at low temperatures (60- 70 ft-lbs at -40 degrees Fahrenheit). Another added advantage of the Formula XL-550 wire is the ability to retain high impact toughness properties in applications where post-weld stress relief is required.

Low Hydrogen = Better Quality Welds
The low hydrogen level in the Formula XL-550 flux cored wire helps eliminate cracking and does not allow worm tracks to form in the weld under normal working conditions. The wire also features improved wet-in action that produces an aesthetically-pleasing, flat or slightly-convex bead contour. Formula XL-550 has excellent slag release to help reduce downtime for post-weld cleanup and to expedite the welding process in multi-pass applications.
