FlowCam Cyano features built-in bio-volume and cell density calculations.
Press Release Summary:
Designed to characterize each high-resolution, full-color, algal cell image based on size, shape, color, phycocyanin fluorescence, FlowCam Cyano detects images and identifies thousands of individual algal cells in few minutes. Unit is able to differentiate toxic cyanobacteria with harmless algal cells. Product is suitable for detection of blue green algae in lakes, reservoirs, rivers and coastal regions.

Algae Instrumentation Manufacturer to Unveil FlowCam® Cyano at NALMS Lake Management Symposium
FlowCam Cyano Automatically Detects, Identifies Harmful Blue-Green Algae
The infamous algae bloom that devastated the Florida coast may soon become old, forgotten news thanks to the FlowCam®. The FlowCam Cyano from global aquatic instrumentation manufacturer Fluid Imaging Technologies, Scarborough, Maine (www.FluidImaging.com), automatically detects, images and identifies thousands of individual algal cells in a sample in minutes and differentiates toxic cyanobacteria from harmless algal cells. Proven effective for early detection of blue-green algae in lakes, reservoirs, rivers and coastal regions, the patent-pending FlowCam Cyano allows research scientists, municipal water engineers and other water quality professionals to quickly determine whether blue-green algae is present and begin treatment before it becomes a widespread, potentially dangerous algae bloom.
To be unveiled at the North American Lake Management (NALMS) International Symposium on Nov. 1st in Banff, Canada, the FlowCam Cyano characterizes each high-resolution, full-color, algal cell image based on size, shape, color, phycocyanin fluorescence and nearly 40 other measurement parameters. Featuring automated, built-in bio-volume and cell density calculations, the high-speed FlowCam Cyano eliminates the time, labor and data estimates required of microscopy while yielding highly accurate, actionable data that would otherwise not be practicable. The FlowCam is currently in use in more than 50 municipalities throughout the United States to monitor source water for cyanobacteria and prevent taste and odor complaints.

Fluid Imaging Technologies, Inc. manufactures the FlowCam®, a continuous-imaging particle analysis instrumentation system that automatically detects and images microscopic particles in the range of 2µm – 5mm, saving and measuring each image with 40+ discrete parameters. The FlowCam technology differentiates one particle from another for automated identification and classification; much like the human eye can through a microscope. Unlike microscopy, the FlowCam® automatically analyzes thousands of particles in seconds.
